I had an experience a bit like this...just as sad but not nearly as ungly...when I worked in the ER of a large hospital.A woman came in with abdominal pain and blleding and was taken right into a room.Before she could be transferred to the large “lying in” hospital down the street (we didn’t have an OB department at that time) she had a miscarrige (a natural one,not the unnatural type).I watched one of the nurses,who was Catholic,take the child into the “dirty” utility room nearby and baptize him/her.One of the many memories of the ER that I’ll take to my grave.
You’ll notice that the ‘champions of the working man’ i.e., their union, which I’m sure was more than happy to deduct dues from their paycheck every payday didn’t lift a finger to help them.
