The wife keeps her 9mm Kimber in condition 1, as do I my Kimber in .45... but we keep the Mossberg 590 loaded, chamber empty.
The thought is the ker-chunk of the shotgun going into battery will be enough to send'em scrambling - more so than the Click of a safety.
If the situation warrants, though, the pistols are handy and ready to go.
