back in the 1980s there was a voter fraud case involving the Republicans. As part of the settlement, the Republicans signed legal documents stating they would never pursue the Democrats over voter fraud.

Actually, I remember reading that somewhere also.. no source link though, it was a long time ago.

http://gulagbound.com/36046/no-joke-the-gop-can-not-legally-help-stop-vote-fraud/ That’s the source.

Read the link to the case: http://judicialview.com/Court-Cases/Civil-Procedure/Democratic-National-Committee-v-Republican-National-Committee/10/201975

I’m not a lawyer but it seems that this consent decree does NOT mean the Republicans cannot look for or challenge potential vote fraud. They agreed to not do it if the reason they do it is to focus upon minority communities:

“where the racial or ethnic composition of such districts IS A FACTOR IN THE DECISION to conduct, or the actual conduct of, such activities there AND WHERE A PURPOSE OR SIGNIFICANT EFFECT of such activities is to deter QUALIFIED voters from voting; AND the conduct of such activities DISPROPORTIONATELY IN OR DIRECTED TOWARD districts that have a substantial proportion of racial or ethnic populations shall be considered relevant evidence of the existence of such a factor and purpose.”

Seems to me they easily get around this by doing their activities in every community. I would agree with that decree so long as the Democrats are bound by the same agreement—not to focus their activities toward suppressing white or conservative votes.

In any case, other parties with candidates on the ballot would not be bound by this decree.
