The other agreement, used by Wake and Alamance counties, allowed local officers to check someone’s immigration status only after he or she had been brought to the jail on some other criminal charge..Maybe all the jails need to stop checking anyone for past criminal arrests. Pretty soon it will be illegal to arrest an illegal.

See another related...Mexican ambassador says now is the time for immigration reform

By Khara Persad, Cronkite News Service

Published: November 15, 2012 at 9:20 am The Mexican ambassador to the United States said Wednesday that immigration reform is vital for relations between the two countries and that the time for reform is now.

“I’ve said it before – I don’t think there’s as an important issue for the future wellbeing of our bilateral relationship than getting immigration reform right,” Arturo Sarukhan said at a news conference in Washington.

“I think the time is ripe,” he said.

That comment was echoed later Wednesday by President Barack Obama, who said in an unrelated White House news conference that he is “very confident” that Washington can get immigration reform done in his second term.

It also comes as lawmakers on Capitol Hill are expressing a new willingness to deal with the issue.

Kyrsten Sinema, the incoming member of Congress from Arizona’s 9th District, said Tuesday that the state is ready for a solution to immigration issues.

“Arizona … is Ground Zero for the fight on immigration,” Sinema said. “I hope that members of Congress are sincerely interested in working on a solution.” http://azcapitoltimes.com/news/2012/11/15/mexican-ambassador-says-now-is-the-time-for-immigration-reform/

When I was a municipal police officer in the 50’s the oath taken by city police said they were to uphold all laws - local, state and federal - and we did. What has changed??

or give them the authority to question, investigate and arrest people...

That's pretty presumptuous - presuming they were asking for authority, or even needed it, to do their jobs.

There is a NYT story today about the proposed Obama budget ( remember the last one got zero votes) and guess who is getting a big cut. ICE and CIS. Guess who got a plus up. CBP.

This is my slightly educated conclusion. Obama is going to push through immigration reform. He will meet the arguments for border enforcement first by saying he is spending more money on CBP. He will give the illegals in the U.S. free passage by cutting ICE and curtailing their enforcement abilities through policies.

Big reward for all those illegal votes - instant citizenship, no questions asked.

Apparently Russia is not the only nation Obama is going to be “more flexible” with, now that the election is over...

When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ?

Ever hear of reciprocal aggrements ? These are arranged to protect the rights of American citizens working or living in other countries.

Why is it when it comes to citizens of other countries we are required to offer them the same privledges as we do to US citizens? But when it comes to US citizens who get in trouble or attempt to do business in other countries they do not get the same treatment their citizens get.

Americans can’t own coast land in Mexico. And get no title to it elsewhere. If they run out of cash they’ll get unceremoniously sent back or put in jail untill some relative comes up with the “fresh”. That’s just for starters as for granting them voting privledges yea let’s give Mexican citizens that right when American citizens vote in their elections .
