The Obama Admin has lots of pressure to press besides an affair. There’s the possibility of criminal charges, the loss of a very big pension if convicted, possible charges of treason if his girlfriend has classified info, further exposures of his behaviors over the decades...
Petraus is going to back Obama to save his own skin and just let the chips fall.
Since when do any of these people in high office think of anything other than themselves, power, or prestige.

Maybe he won't. As a general he has lots of buddies who are still in that can cause lots of trouble. I'm sure he's on the horn now calling in some favors. Even if they use the affair as a smoke screen they would have to listen to his buddies.
