EAST BRUNSWICK A jewelry store owner chased two would-be robbers from his store when he pulled out his own handgun, according to police.
The incident happened about 3:44 p.m. Tuesday at Harrys Gold, 700 Route 18 in East Brunswick.
Two males had entered the Route 18 gold store after the store was empty of all customers, East Brunswick Det. Sgt. Kevin F. Zebro said in a statement.
One of the males brandished a black handgun while the second male attempted to enter a locked office.
The owner, who was alone in the store, pulled out his own handgun.
Upon seeing the owners handgun, both suspects then fled the store without any proceeds and ran north on Highway 18, Zebro said in the statement.

“No shots fired, the most common occurance.”
Yeah, but since this is New Jersey, I’ll be the jewelry store owner is in bigger trouble than the robbers.
I'm sure he'll be fine.
But if another customer was carrying and helped out, he'd be in custody.
From the media's lack of racial description I'm sure the gun was not the only black thing involved in the robbery. Good thing this wasn't NYC, not only would the owner have the trauma of an attempted robbery, the the NYC police (those ever vigilant gaurdians of liberty) would have arrested him for assault on the robbers or shot him.
would have arrested him for assault on the robbers or shot him.

That or charged him with ‘impeding the business practice of a citizen’.
If they were to be from NJ, the charge would be ‘interference with interstate commerce’.
Of course the store owner would really be in trouble if he had an 18 ozer of soda or pack of cigarettes without NY sticker-
the perps would be offered counseling for the trauma of facing a pistol and start receiving Social Security payments because they were/are suffering from PTSD and workplace stress.
Who dare say this is not the ‘Land of Opportunity’?
Any New Jerseyan who has a legal handgun can have it at their place of business. Without a carry permit, handgun owners in NJ are only allowed to have it at home, place of business (owners), the range, or in proper transport between the three.
It’s about next to impossible to get a CCW there though, isn’t it?
Yes, that is true. The store owner in this case did not need one.
