An affair with biographer Paula Broadwell ended the career of retired General David Petraeus, the head of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Now, Michigan Congressman Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, is on the short list of possible candidates to replace him, according to a report in the New York Times.

From the Times report:

Representative Mike Rogers, Republican of Michigan, is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and a former [Federal Bureau of Investigation] official and could sail through confirmation hearings and give a bipartisan air to the administration's efforts, as Mr. Petraeus did.

Requests for comment were not immediately answered by Rogers' office.

Mike Rogers is the head of the House committee investigating Benghazi.

If he accepts this appointment, Obama will have effectively decapitated the House’s investigation of the Benghazi scandal...

The Chicago gang may have some dirt on this guy as well. Otherwise why would they consider him? [/semisarc]

But then Issa might take his place. They should be careful in what they ask for.

I wouldn’t be shocked. The terrorists only have to be right once, while the new guy will have to be right all the time. If a terrorist succeeds in blowing something up then it will be the new guy’s fault.

The Republicans ought to demand that General Patreus be replaced by... General Patreus. Call it the Clinton precedent. If Bill Clinton can be president after dodging the draft, smoking dope, cheating on his wife every chance he got and raping Juanita Broaddrick, certainly General Patreus can continue with his job at the CIA after a simple affair. At least Patreus had a CONSENSUAL affair with a woman old enough to know what she was doing. No perjury. No obstruction of justice. No state troopers. Oh, and I think Bill Clinton was about a million times more blackmailable than Patreus. Clinton is a coward. Patreus is a patriot.

Sorry about the spelling above. It’s David Petraeus.

But that would mean they already know in advance they could control him. Petraeus in the position did not serve US or himself well.

Why didn't an affair with Lewinsky end the career of one Bill Clinton?

1. Because he was at the top of the food chain.
2. Because the Senate wouldn't vote to convict.
3. Because, according to him, it wasn't really sex.

An attempt to get Rogers into a position which would force him to keep silent on Obama’s treasonous activities?

What has Issa pursued that’s come to anything? He seems to be one of the most obviously compromised Republicans in DC.
