I used to do a lot of contract work on bakeries and all the pasteries when they are fresh in the bakery are excelent.
By the time they get into the stores they have aged and aren’t 25% as good as they are right out of the oven!

If you dig around in the archives of americastestkitchen.com or cookscountry.com (or any others in that franchise) you can find a recipe for GOOD homemade "Hostess Cupcakes'.
One of the girls (Bridgett or Julia) made them from scratch, chocolate cake, cream filling, glossy brown frosting and accurate right down to the white "swirlie" on top.
Now, if we can only get one of the girls to synthesize twinkies...
