Mr. Petraeus’s sudden resignation on Friday shed light on the competing pressures facing F.B.I. agents who recognized the high stakes of any investigation involving the C.I.A. director but who were wary of exposing a private affair with no criminal or security implications.

Sorry, but this is a flat out LIE. Anytime a person is LYING and UNFAITHFUL they are in a position to be blackmailed. Petraeus should be courts martial-ed.

Yep. Which is why the NYT spin that Obama, as Commander in Chief, wasn't alerted to the fact that the CIA director was in that vulnerable position, is laughable.
