Does anyone remember a hot book from back in the late 70s, called “Dress for Success” there were two versions, if I remember right. One for women, one for men.

In that book, they described the kind of “look” and apparel preferred by military officers.

Definitely not Holly’s - the opposite, in fact. But, Holly is not a young woman, and she doesn’t dye her hair. She may be hypothyroid, have other health issues, like me, and can’t lose weight no matter how hard
she tries.

Not every 60 year old woman looks “fantastic” - particularly if they are working, and do not have time for gyms, spas, plastic surgery, etc.

Please, don’t start picking on post-menopausal women for how they look. Most of us do the best we can, and it isn’t always easy to compete with the 30-something crowd, who eventually will have to struggle with similar problems.

Some women don’t have a clue how they appear as they age. Others have friends or family who manage ‘suggestions.’
And of course, others could care less.
Funny thing about not caring about appearances - it’s we who have to look upon each other everyday - the ‘offender’ can’t see themselves, except when looking in a mirror.

I know of a woman whose husband touched her brownish hair one day and said something like, ‘why don’t you lighten your hair?’ Well, instead of smacking him, she ‘heard’ the ‘request’ and did, and hasn’t looked back.

There wasn’t a divorce looming, but doing this gave both pleasure.

Well, attack if you must, but there’s simple messages husbands and wives can exchange, and most times it pays to take heed.

Of course you’re right. But, Holly has a cute face and may have been pretty as a cadet or whatever, and there are gorgeous women everywhere over sixty who are overweight so that was not my critiique. But to abhor a tube of lipstick and a blush brush in exchange for butch bangs and a Peter Pan haircut cut from the 50’s in this day and age stands out as passive aggressive rebellion, or depression and probably purposeful.

I am the first to deplore dressing for the street walker look, all cleavage and legs and arms, reducing men to common objects for a woman’s own self gratification, it’s a scandal and sinful. But the other extreme attracts about as much attention, and Holly’s appearance was just shocking for me. She is not interested in her man, that’s apparent.

At the beginning of this, when I saw the first picture they put up with her in it, I reacted to her hair. I am 80, but I would never let my hair be gray. I just immediately thought her hair makes her look so old. I don't think I was trying to find fault, I just thought she looks old and doesn't have to. I use a box 10 minute color from the drug store to keep my hair blond without gray in it.

Yes, she has the spreading out in the middle that happens to some women when they get older but that was not bad and was secondary to the gray hair.

I saw a picture of her and him when he was a student at West Point and she was a beautiful young woman. She is fairly short and I've seen several today type pictures and she is wearing those cover all short jackets and that makes her look shorter. A dress of all one color without a short cut jacket would make her look leaner and taller.

In recent past years, I was traveling Texas teaching election seminars, and traveling with my lovely friend who is 5'10”. I am 5'5” and felt like a midget standing next to her. I wore solid color dresses or pants with the same color top, so I wouldn't look like a shorty cut in two.

I feel sorry for Holly having to raise the family with him gone most of the time and now having to deal with this.

I don't think he should be allowed to take time off to deal with this family problem when his vital testimony is needed. He didn't think about family when he had the affair and I think he should have to deal with that right now as it is his duty. That takes one day to testify and tell the truth and he needs to do it.

It's not about you or your life. It's about her life as the spouse of one of the most prominent and visible men in the United States. Looking well-put-together is just part of the job, and she was falling down on the job. She could have made the time and could have afforded many types of help. That said, her slovenly appearance doesn't excuse what he did.
