I’m going to agree and disagree.

I spend a bit of time on “Reddit” which is a VERY popular site with young, predominantly white males. My son frequents it, and I wanted to see what it was about.

Some articles here on FR have said that what we really need is not the hispanic vote, it is the young adult vote. I agree. These are working, educated people who are going to see their taxes skyrocket. While a number espouse the usual european social-democracy line, there are spirited discussions about economic matters. A favorite of mine just this morning is a complete shoot-down of a ridiculous story about minimum-wage people not being able to afford a 2-bedroom apartment.

For the moment, assume that I am the most socially conservative individual that you could find. I would STILL maintain that in order to gain this youth vote, we must court the vote of those who do not agree with this position. That means an OVERT statement that both views are heard and welcomed in the Republican party, and social issues removed from the party plank.

The other side is now very capable of using social media to end-run what the candidate is saying (we all know Mitt never got up there and said repeal Roe v Wade) and blast alarmist rhetoric all over the internet.

Go over to Reddit. Sign in and post. It’s a good place to advance fiscal conservatism to a receptive audience. But don’t bother with the social issues. You’ll hit a brick wall.

Reddit is a lost cause. It is a wasteland of basement dwelling neckbeards who censor(via downvote) any opinion that is contrary to the democrat party line.

As regards the youth vote, I believe an opportunity to reach out to this vote exists. Send to the colleges spokesmen and women of around the age of 50, college graduates in the 1980’s. Let them relate their experiences coming out of college under Reagan. A time when high paying jobs were literally thrown in your lap. Talk about the cars you bought, the houses and condos purchased,in your mid-20’s. Contrast, in today's dollars, their first job with a starting salary of 80Gs to their part time job at Starbucks.
