Reagan would do what he did do, fight for leadership in the GOP, defeat the moderates, take control of the party, become it’s leader, and be in command of a vast organization and brand, that mattered.
If he had joined one of our 50 or so “3rd” Parties, he would never have become anything of note in politics.

And you may very well be correct. Mr. Reagan certainly had it in him to do it.
