Obama: Americans voted for tax hikes on rich By Olivier Knox, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 5 hrs ago

Claiming a mandate from his election romp over Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama announced on Friday that he had invited congressional leaders to the White House next week for talks on how to steer the battered economy away from a "fiscal cliff." Obama said he was open to compromise with Republicans—but that any final deal needed to raise taxes on the richest Americans.

"This was a central question during the election," the president said in brief remarks in the East Room of the White House. "It was debated over and over again, and on Tuesday night we found out that a majority of Americans agree with my approach.

"Our job now is to get a majority in Congress to reflect the will of the American people," Obama said. "I'm not wedded to every detail of my plan. I'm open to compromise. I'm open to new ideas. I'm committed to solving our fiscal challenges. But I refuse to accept any approach that isn't balanced."

The president, who did not take questions on Friday, campaigned in part on a plan that would extend most of the Bush-era tax cuts, but allow them to expire for individuals making more than $200,000 or families pulling in $250,000. Republicans have said they want to prolong all of those rate reductions.

Obama said, as he has all year, that this means both sides agree on extending the middle-class reductions—and that doing so should not require "long negotiations or drama. ... Let's extend the middle-class tax cuts right now. Let's do that right now." (Republicans have resisted; extending those rates would reduce the party's leverage on tax hikes affecting the wealthy.)

I have so had it with this, but if nothing else will satisfy the little Napoleon, then let's insist on making millionaires and billionaires pay more.

Begin by making sure whatever tax is implemented will make sure that rich people like Buffet has to pay. Under the Buffet rule, and/or letting the Bush tax cuts for individuals expire, Buffet won't be paying more.

Buffet doesn't make a million dollars in income. Last I looked he only made 100 thousand dollars salary from his company, and around 75,000 for director fees. This would make him exempt from the taxes Obama proposes as paying his fair share.

So Obama is letting the billionaire skate while people making only $200,000 are asked to pay the billionaire's fair share, and almost half of Americans don't pay income taxes, and some get more taxes back than they pay in.

Somehow, I don't think Americans would consider that fair if they understood it.

If Obama really wants to get money from those rascally rich people, he could implement a tax on their net worth as well as a tax on their tax-dodge foundations.

If Obama wants the rich to pay more, then his proposals are dumb as a box of rocks. So he's either stupid or has some other goal.

Maybe we should all write Letters to the Editor in all our news papers and expose this fraudulent proposal.

Even in victory the president has to bring out the class warfare card. I’m so tired of this. Overspending put us where we are today and not the wealthy getting tax breaks. I’m so frustrated that too many of our fellow citizens resent wealthy and successful people.

No, half of all Americans didn’t vote.

then half of all Americans earned the right to not have any political influence.

Americans voted to raise someone else’s taxes. The jokes is on them, many people that earn $250,000 a year and over file their business on their personal taxes. When you raise their taxes they raise the cost of goods and services and pass this rise in the cost of doing business on to the consumer. They won’t be paying for this tax hike, those that voted for it will.

Obama: Americans voted for tax hikes on rich

Actually, Obama won the election by a margin of 50-48.

And, if I'm not mistaken, the Republicans won the House by a popular vote margin of 53-47.

Thus, it can be effectively argued that, in fact, Americans did NOT vote for "tax hikes on the rich".

How ‘bout those union auto workers in Ohio that voted for “O”. Forget about the natural gas now known to be in abundance in Ohio that will not be produced. When the auto sales drop like a rock for GM because so many will be out of work those worker will face layoffs. Many will not buy GM these days because of the bailout for the unions.

"Tax the rich" is plank #2.

The Ten Planks of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto
(and How Statists Implement Them)

  1. Abolition of private property rights (via high property taxes, restrictive zoning laws, "fair housing" edicts, environmental and "wetlands" regulations, UN Agenda 21, etc.)

  2. Institution of a heavily graduated income tax (by calling it "taxing the rich")

  3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance (through a confiscatory estate tax on "the rich")

  4. Confiscation of the property of enemies of the state (through lawless application of asset forfeiture and eminent domain)

  5. Centralization of credit into the hands of the state (Federal Reserve, Federal Trade Commission, TARP, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, federal takeover of student loans, etc.)

  6. Centralization of the means of communication and transportation into the hands of the state (FCC, DOT, FEMA, NTSB, FAA, etc.).

  7. Consolidation and subjugation of all major industries to central government control (FDA, EPA, OSHA, ICC, HUD, NLRB, EEOC, DOE, TSA etc.)

  8. Mandatory labor union membership (teachers and other public-sector unions, planned unionization of 21-million Obamacare health care workers, automatic withholding of forced union dues, "card check," etc.)

  9. Equitable redistribution of all wealth (TANF, SSI, EITC, SNAP, etc.)

  10. Free public education (and food and health care and cell phones and Internet access, etc.)

FU Obama. The Congress makes the laws. They reflect the will of the people. In fact, the House, as our founders intended, most closely represents the will the people. Obama thinks he is a dictator.

Aso, all of that Natural Gas in Ohio is on private land - even 0zero cannot stop that - not even with a carbon tax.

The nat gas boom in Ohio is why the unemployment rate is at 7% there and getting better - also why Ohio voted more 0zero

I’ll comment.
This is “I won.” the sequel, and half the country is ready to secede.
The best half.

That’s strange - out here in AZ I never saw that on the ballot. IN fact just the opposite occurred - the American citizens kept the Government divided so as to constrain the spendthrift ZERO. No one said anything about supporting TAXES - the person in the WH is clearly delusional.

“It was debated over and over again, and on Tuesday night we found out that a majority of Americans agree with my approach.”

I wonder if this ahole ever had an independent thought in his whole miserable life. The majority of the country voted to raise taxes on the rich...wow, there is a surprise. Frankly, I would give him what he wants except i would raise the rates to confiscatory levels. Let’s kill this place quickly. You want 40%, gee, I an raise your 40 to 95 easily. Meanwhile, the majority of voters in some states want to secede. Does that mean they get their way too, I think it should. You can have your 95% tax rates on the rich, free bc pills, obama phones and the like. We will just leave, have a flat tax and few bennies and you can GFYs.
