I’ve been reading a bunch of threads recommending something like you’re discussing. Basically, letting it go off the cliff, going Galt, shutting down, etc.
While I find the idea appealing in a certain way (darkest before the dawn and all that).
My only apprehension is what our foreign enemies might do. Would the Chinese or Russians see their opportunity to muscle in? Would sharia break out in certain areas? Would the drug cartels (who already have a great “ground game” in place) take over blocks and blocks of major cities?
Here is where the rubber hits the road.. We won’t move unless a 5% deduction on all government spending, across the board, including entitlements.. Not from baseline, but an actual cuts, and with annual 5% cuts for each annual budget, with the 2nd and succeeding year negotiated departmental cuts or NOTHING!
In ten years, at these cuts and normal growth, we are even again.. We will loose about 500,000 government jobs, but more than made up for it in a rise in employment in the private sector..
It won’t happen, but we could get back to 17% of GDP..
No one is yet strong enough to try anything against us, except the Arab terrorists who would no doubt step up their activities..
China needs us almost as much as we need them, because they are nowhere near parity with the US in any area of military, and Russia is all mouth, and old stuff..
NOW, I wouldn't say that in 10 years.. Especially with Obama with 4 of those years..
