The high road led straight to defeat for Romney

If Election Day is about picking winners, the morning after is for post-mortems. That's when we slice open the losing campaigns, set aside the hundreds of millions of dollars that gush out, and pick apart the cause of death.

Why did the Romney campaign fail? Maybe the country is now GOP-proof. That is, maybe a Constitution-guided, free-market, limited-government candidate no longer can "appeal" to the majority of the electorate. It could be that the death knell rang early this year once 67.3 million of us, or one in five Americans, had come to depend on federal assistance, formerly known as "the dole."

This nearly takes us back to the level we hit in 1994 (23.1 percent), before President Bill Clinton and the GOP-led Congress "ended" welfare as we knew it. After a noticeable decline, the percentage skyrocketed during President Obama's first term. So, too, did the percentage of Americans who pay zero federal taxes, now a shocking 49.5 percent. Right off the bat, half the country listens to Mitt Romney promise to relieve taxpayers of the onerous burdens imposed by the federal government and either fears for its livelihood or hears static.

It was exactly such an economic message that formed not just the core of Romney's campaign, but all of it. On one level, this exclusive focus on economic issues to the point of tunnel vision marked a campaign determined to play it safe. On another level, it was a huge gamble, a roll of the dice on which Romney staked everything.

they wouldn't know what a "Constitution-guided, free-market, limited-government" is. let alone vote for it. The electorate is composed of idiots.

question is: how do you get an idiot to vote for you?

The answer is in this piece that I read the sat. before election day. It is too long to post as an answer, so I FReep mailed it to you. Let me know if you don’t get it, because like I said it is long.

Romney couldn’t beat Obama?

Romney didn’t beat McCain.

Disgraceful. A billion dollar campaign? What did Republicans get for their money?

McCain, 2008 popular vote: 58,319,442

Romney, 2012 popular vote: 58,163,978

That is the biggest fact of this election and no one is talking about it.

Correct - the problem for most republicans , and especially Romney is that they are not from the street and don’t know how to get in the gutter w a sewer rat like Obama and fight dirty.

These milqetoast panzies simply dont know how to fight a ghetto street thug like Obama at his own game.

Amen Brother:

I read why Romney in a Jewish scribe.

He lost because 70% of Jews in America voted for him.

That’s why.

Yes, Romney should have told the truth and attacked Obama. It might have helped. But the sad truth is that we have a growing percentage of the citizenry who don’t like the idea of limited government. They like Big Government and more of it. You’ll never convince those people. This nation is almost done.

Romney should have had Allen West advising him. West kicks a** and takes names. Neither does he mince words - he takes the fight to the enemy. But, conservatives were left out of the equation. Where was Sarah Palin? Her support alone would have made up the missing 3 million voters. But, the Romney camp kicked her and the Tea Party to the curb. As much as I think Ron Paul is a kook - they also could have and should have embraced that group too. It probably would have made a difference.

Having said that - once Romney was in office - he probably would have thrown us under the bus again anyway.

So true. If you are against abortion nominate a man who has always bee proud of being pro abortion. If you are against gay marriage nominate the Father of gay marriage. If you are against OBAMACARE vote for the man who proudly claims credit for ROMNEYCARE. If you are troubled by gays in the military or boy scouts support a man who is for both. If you are concerned about religious freedom nominate a man who tried to force Catholic Hospitals to do abortions and forced Catholic charities to stop adoptions in Mass. because they would not do gay adoptions. Gee I wonder why he lost. Put the blame where it belongs on the liberal Rinos who nominated him. They got their liberal President just not the ONE they wanted.
