The leader of an automotive parts plant in Lincoln County has told state officials that there are plans to lay off 75 workers starting in late December.

The layoffs at Brake Parts LLC were disclosed Oct. 29 in a filing that government officials require before large layoffs.

The layoffs are expected to start Dec. 28 and continue in the first quarter of 2013, plant manager Janet Smith wrote in the filing.

The site produces automobile and truck disc brakes, according to a directory of manufacturing plants maintained by the state Cabinet for Economic Development. It opened in 1989 and employed 365 people in 2011, according to the state.

Parent company Affinia Group, based in Ann Arbor, Mich., issued a short statement about the layoffs and declined to comment further.

"With lower demand in North America and excess global capacity, reductions at the facility were necessary," said the statement from spokesman Scott Howat. "This decision was based on current economic conditions and has no reflection on the quality and commitment of our people in Stanford."

The company also has a property in Winchester where research and development on brake pads is conducted, according to state records. That center, at 1225 Enterprise Drive, employed 28 in 2011, according to state records.
