When you were a toddler you did stupid things that caused painful physical injuries like most people did. That’s how we learn .
Sometimes bad things happen are good for us to understand their bad.
Lack I’d a decent income and doing remedial jobs beneath your level of intelligence give you time to think about what’s really important .
Sometimes people don’t learn lessons. That happens to.
We have 3 grown children. One Big Lefty, One Conservative and One who has finally seen the light in the past four years - only as a result of the efforts of her wonderful, conservative husband. After our day of mourning on Wed, last night Hubby and I were discussing our options and plans for moving forward. The kids know our position, and so do our grandchildren. We had specifically talked about the election and what it meant for their futures - in fact one 5-yr old grandchild asked the Lefty why Barack Obama wanted to take more of their money?
We are going to do our homework re where we spend our dollars. No purchases of anything made in China - no matter how "inexpensive". I'm going to scour the Internet re any public statements or Corporate policies that I find objectionable - no money to them either. That goes for our favorite restaurants too. If the owners are Lefties, our disposable income (what will be left of it) can go elsewhere. No movies - family time is better spent in conversation and reading, we might even bring out the Monopoly Board. Making our charitable dollars go to those in our community in need - through our church. Working on trying to be a good Christian by volunteering more time in our community - If we can each show one person what the love is Christ is all about, that is a good thing.
Two additional, specific things.
1) We were looking for a small condo in the city where our three children's families live. I sent the realtor a note last night. "Based on the results of the presidential election, we are not going to pursue a condo purchase. We strongly believe that the policies of the current administration are diametrically opposed to meaningful job creation and thus, any significant economic recovery is now unlikely. Being retired, that means being squeezed by prospects for less investment income, higher taxes and rising prices for EVERYTHING. A condo is no longer part of the plan."
2) The wills are being changed. What little will be left of the Lefty's share will skip him and go into a trust for his beautiful children. Perhaps we gave him too good of a life growing up. He never knew hardship. It is so easy to go gaga over Lefty drivel when you aren't worried about your future.
FReepers, please let me know if you have any suggestions for what else we can do. BTW, perhaps we can have a specific forum here on FR where we can specifically share ideas. Any "research" can be posted. Lastly, perhaps there is some way that can "unite" to push for Voter ID laws and get involved to make sure that voter lists can be cross-referenced for multiple registrations and what about the integrity of vote COUNTING?!?!?!
