On a related subject a friend of mine who frequently flies cross country once asked this. If many carbon offsets and credits involve planting trees, where are these multi million tree new forests? He's never seen them.

The trees were already being planted to replenish stocks that were cut down for wood. They were also sold for their carbon offset value. If they were sold multiple times it would be no surprise.

The whole program only makes sense in lala land.
