Romney was doing fine until he backed down on Libya. He should have met Obama’s bluff destroyed Obama’s credibility by publicly calling him a liar for weeks on end.
Romney couldn't handle the level of dishonesty by Obama.
Obama was so vulnerable to having his credibility destroyed. Romney was too nice to do it.
