Voters in Miami-Dade overwhelmingly supported a measure that could save the lives of more than 20,000 cats and dogs a year, and set the county on a path to achieve its no kill goal for the Animal Services Department.
The straw-vote victory on a ballot question to support a small property-tax increase for animal welfare now puts the issue in the hands of the Miami-Dade County Commission.
Commissioners wanted to see whether the public favored the issue in principle, and how enthusiastically.
As of late Tuesday, with 627 of the countys 829 precincts reporting, voters said yes to the Pets Trust, by an almost 2-to-1 margin.
Commissioners are now likely to create the agency, which would augment efforts by Miami-Dade Animal Services Department to reduce pet overpopulation and shelter deaths.
The department takes in about 37,000 unwanted cats and dogs a year.

Sure, it is sad so many animals die...it is CRIMINAL and IMMORAL and PERVERTED that thousands more babies are killed in the womb. The sin is added to because the media and liberals DEMAND THE CONTINUED MURDER OF BABIES.
No outrage.
Here in Miami, the local media focuses CONSTANTLY on the slaughter of horses by island natives who have moved here from places where horse meat is eaten....every case is made to sound like a tragedy of epic proportions. News consumers are told how animals SUFFER and details are given in graphic descriptions as to how the animals are killed.
Try to do that regarding the murder of human beings via abortion, and you are labeled a kook.
Makes me sick.
And just how are they supposed to spare all these thousands of unwanted animals? They can’t adopt them all out. Are they going to set up a huge unwanted animal colony, where the creatures languish in perpetual captivity?
“They can release them into the Everglades. They would provide more food for the pythons and boa constrictors.”
Thanks, and I can’t begin to tell you how much. You’ve given me the laugh since late Tuesday night. Bless you for that.

Thanks, and I can’t begin to tell you how much. You’ve given me the very first laugh since late Tuesday night. Bless you for that.
