Boehner also leveled a challenge to Obama, calling on him to take the lead in finding compromise.
Mr. President, this is your moment, he said. Were ready to be led. Not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans.

Obama let 4 people die in Libya, killed a border agent by arming Mexican drug lords, took foreign campaign money, and ran the deficit up $5 Trillion dollars. Bonehead should ensure that Impeachment proceedings begin TODAY!
You mean the "racist", "sore losers", "vindictive" impeachment hearings? Never gonna happen.
They made this deal, let them live with it....and the consequences.
Okay Mr. I won. Now what? Its day 2. Where is the plan? I want unemployment at 0 NOW and the economy booming again. And you better not do ANYTHING Romney suggested! Fuzzy math - remember? How did that go again: you were going to ask the rich to pay a little more. If thats all it takes, do it now. Start confiscating.
Let’s see some sweat, not tears.
I have been saying this too...this is Obama's first order of business. His administration will make a few sound bites about "fairness" and "everyone doing their share," and the media will fabricate his words into a "viable plan." It will amount to letting the tax cuts expire. This issue is so easy for the Democrats, because they have to do nothing in order to get exactly what they want.
The Republicans will talk about making deep cuts in programs, and reductions in spending, and it'll sound like they're stealing food from the mouths of babies and the elderly. Obama and the Democrats will insist that they're ready to compromise, but not at the expense of the poor and down-trodden.
It'll come down to a last-hour negotiation while financial markets plummet, raising the stakes even higher for the Republican House. Reid will stick a last-minute bill in front of them, filled with all sorts of little goodies, and insist the House pass it. They'll frame it as the "last chance for a compromise." If they refuse, the tax increases will occur; if they pass it, some tax cuts for Democratic supporters will happen, some major spending will occur, and the rest of us will all be paying higher taxes.
Sorry, I have little faith the Republicans can manage the next couple of months well.
Fiscal policy is the job of Congress. Boehner is doing what Congress always does, pass the buck.
We're not 16 trillion in debt, and counting, because the president is a failure. We are 16 trillion in debt, and counting, because Congress is on a spend and borrow track.
Boehner, like all the folks in Congress, very much enjoys the fact that the pubic associates fiscal policy with the president. It helps Congress avoid the responsibility and the accountability.
FR’s owner was right all along.
This is what happens when we compromise and sell ourselves short—when conservatives truckle, when we go along to get along then we lose.
Linseed, Boehner, Christie, Jeb, McCain and Bloomberg, Kristol: all Republicans, and that’s just a short list.
To hell with them, the gop and the libertarians.
“Sorry, I have little faith the Republicans can manage the next couple of months well.”
Perception is reality. The Obama Reichspropagandaleitung will tell the people what they ‘need to know’. My 90+ yo German mother tells stories of a regime that determines what the truth will be.
