A good paper trail is using black markers on paper ballots then scanned. That’s how we do it.

We had the choice between an electronic box or paper ballot. I chose paper. After voting, you stick it is a scanner. Scanner pops up a message that says your vote was recorded.

You have absolutely no way to know what way the vote was recorded. The scanner keeps the ballot, to do get a tear off receipt. Whoopee.....
