NEW YORK, Nov. 1 -- In their last joint appearance before Election Day, Walter F. Mondale and Geraldine A. Ferraro drew an estimated 100,000 supporters to a Garment District rally where the Democratic candidates denounced the "radical preachers" and "extremists who control the Republican Party."

NOW you bring this up!!
“I don’t know anyone who voted for Nixon”
Yeah. Seemed like RR did those to create the optics of a big movement. Trying to lure others to join in like 2008 for Obama. Didn’t work, unfortunately. While we were all in big events. There were 20000 obamaites getting votes out. Lesson learned.
McGovern drew massive crowds in 72’......we all know how that turned out.
Nader packed arena’s in 2000........yet all he could amount to was perhaps a spoiler.
The size of crowds can arguably be a measure of intensity, but not overall popularity. Ron Paul can attract very big, wildly enthusiastic crowds, but he is a fringe candidate who will never be president.
Back then they also didn’t have e machines that voted for mondale when you actually tried to vote for Reagan.
I don’t think RR did those big events cynically to drive optics, there was some legitimate excitement building. But as the article points out, it isn’t indicative any large scale movement.
Now the Democrat party embraces those who follow radical preachers for 20 years who command God to damn AmeriKKKa.

Old style campaigning is nostalgic but we need to reach out to millions, not thousands.
Far fewer Obama signs, bumper stickers, attendance at rallies, that was ginning us all up. I am convinced that Obama supporters were ashamed to admit they were voting for him. Who wants to sit at a traffic light announcing to the world that you love government handouts, killing unborn babies, that you think with your lady parts, and your guy is responsible for the death of four Americans?
“The size of crowds can arguably be a measure of intensity, but not overall popularity.”
Remember when people asked “why is he having a campaign event here or moving ads there? Obviously he sees a chance there?” Well, it’s easy to have an appearance or switch on some ads but you are not serious in a state unless you have a professional ground game set up there. We weren’t looking for that.

So, we were Sun Tzu’ed?
Remember 2004? Kerry signs everywhere. In October, he had a rally with 80,000 people showed up.
Then Election Day comes, and media/Dems didn’t know what hit them.
Yup.
There is one thing I can tell you is ALWAYS true of losing campaigns...they and their supporters spend a lot of time disputing polls.
If there is one thing I am glad this election should put a stop to is this stupid notion that the polls are mostly wrong and that somehow you can "unskew" them. What a load of crap that was.
This election did not put that to rest.
MoveOn took out full page ads in the New York Times attacking polls that showed kerry behind. People have short memories, and the same arguments repeat over and over.
