Wisconsin Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin made history on Tuesday with her election to become the first openly gay U.S. Senator, defeating former Gov. Tommy Thompson in the most expensive Senate race in state history.

Between them, the two candidates raised at least $65 million. Thompson conceded the race at around midnight.
