LOL The Puritans were not called Puritans because of any stand on sex . They were called Puritans because of their strong stance on Biblical doctrine . English common law, which wasn't written by the Mayflower compact, wasn't the basis for the Declaration, much less the Constitution. If it were Jews like me couldn't live here, I'd have to go live with the equally unacceptable Catholics and other non acceptable Christians. Personally, I might give a great deal of credit to the Dutch for the religiouly expansive nature of the Constitution. And perhaps southern, non Puritan Christians.

The Mayflower Pilgrims were Separatist not Puritans. Puritans wanted to purify the church from within. Separatist wanted to separate and start their own purified church. Pilgrims settled in Plymouth Colony and Puritans in the Mass Bay Colony.
