Moore: Founding Fathers Suppressed The Vote; Calls It A "Founding Principle Of This Country" (video)
RealClearPolitics ^ | November 6, 2012 | Ian Schwartz

On MSNBC's "Last Word" tonight, activist and filmmaker Michael Moore discussed what he believes is the origins of voter suppression and how to get people who aren't going to vote to change their minds.

"Voter suppression was one of the founding principles of this country. Our Founding Fathers suppressed the vote by saying only white male property owners could vote," Moore said about voter suppression.

Moore begged "Last Word" viewers to find someone they know isn't going to vote and change their minds by taking them out to lunch and the bar,.

"Just take someone," Moore pleaded. "We all know somebody and make it your mission tomorrow to take that person out to vote, take them to lunch, take them to the bar afterwards. Do whatever you have to do that its legal to get them to the polls." Transcript below.

They should lock Michael Moore and Ed Schultz in a room
together but the National Pork Council would have a fit.

I doubt Moore ever read a history book in his life.

As for white male property owners being the only ones to vote, I can agree with the property owner part. I’d add an intelligence test to cut out half the voters in this country.

” ...take that person out to vote, take them to lunch, take them to the bar afterwards. “

Doing all three of those things takes gas, time and lots of money. How many of us have enough of any of those?

Also, most of us WORK. Who has a lunch break long enough to:
go vote (some do),
go to lunch also (tick tock!),
AND
go toss a few back before getting back to work? (boss: is that alcohol on your breath?)

What planet does this guy live on? It’s a TUESDAY!

Spoken like someone who is totally disconnected from the average American’s daily reality.

You're absolutely correct on this point. I've never understood the broadening of voting to encompass those with no stake in America. Mitt Romney was right in his characterization of the 47%. It's incomprehensible to me that those looters have any voice whatsoever at the ballot box.

Only those with skin in the game should vote.

Irresponsible children with only a vested interest in free candy should not!

Moore is right about this part. Take someone to lunch, someone like...like..Me! The Bahamas have good eateries and bars. If Mikey (The Munch) Moore isn’t able to go along because of all that heavy activist work he can just send the money and I’ll go on my own.
Don’t want to be a bother so cash will be fine.

Moore is correct, though not in the twisted way that he means it: the Founding Fathers sought to limit the vote to those responsible enough to exercise it wisely.

Today’s system includes what Moore calls “voter suppression”: minor children and non-citizens are not permitted to vote. There’s a reason for that although I wouldn’t expect a whiner like Moore to understand.

Michael Moore looked morbidly obese last night. MSNBC must use an extra-large chair when he’s on the show because he would for sure collapse in one of their normal chairs.

Seriously, his wife and Chris Christie’s wife should check their spouses into a hospital for weight issues or else they are looking at their children being fatherless in the near future.

Christie looked like a barge waddling around on the Jersey shore. He will never be elected president if he doesn’t lose the pounds and make some changes, although I doubt he will be elected after his lovefest with Obama.

Well, thank you for the well wishes but a heart attack is a pretty unlikely outcome for me.

Mitt Romney was right in his characterization of the 47%.

Yes and no. There's about 47% of people who don't pay income taxes. There's about 47% of the people who see themselves as victims who need government handouts to get by. While there is considerable overlap between the two sets, they are not identical.
