If Romney loses, he'll be a victim of Bush's unpopularity, just like Landon in 36 was defeated because of the public's continued resentment of Herbert Hoover.

It's going to take a number of years for the GOP to get out from under the unpopularity of George Bush and his failed presidency.

That other GOP two-termer

Nixon?

Ike?

Some writers only know Carter on.

It's more unlikely for Obama to be re-elected. Bill Clinton was the last Democrat to be elected to two terms since Harry S Truman and Clinton had help twice from Ross Pee-rot.

LONG AGO when it was unpopular HERE to say it, I said Jorge El Segundo would become a curse on the lips of every conservative.

Bush’s fault? Get over it. Although Bush wasn’t Reagan, he was more damaged by a Democrat media and a Democrat congress than he was by his policies. At the time he wasn’t “unpopular” for his big spending (though we certainly could have done without his prescription drug joint-venture with Teddy Kennedy), but for his unwavering foreign policy — exactly what made him popular among conservatives.

Economy under W. Bush was fine until the democrat socialists took over both the Senate and House due to the Nov., 2006 election. Bush was basically stripped of any power, even moreso than other presidents who in their 7th and 8th years in the White House faced both the Senate and House in the opposition party hands. Check the economic numbers before the Nov. 2006 election and also remember that while Bush was trying to better regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the democrat socialists were pushing on us Jimmy Carter’s “Community Re-Investment Act.” ..... And with W, our allies were confident in us and trusted us, and our enemies or potential enemies knew that Bush believed in defending ourselves and our allies. ... Like any president or any man, W was flawed. But he had America’s best interests at heart, and under relentless siege from a media and opposition party intent every day on ruining him, he kept a quiet and humble dignity that is totally absent in the current Oval Office occupier.

Do they expect Romney to run on Bush’s record because Obama has chosen to run on Clinton’s?

GW Bush hurts the GOP still today by eschewing the Conservative base for voter groups that will never vote GOP

Bush pushed Open Borders and Illegal Alien Amnesty (even after 9/11)....pushed the North American Union nonsense (the EU for North America)...got passed Medicare Prescription act ($75 billion in added spending)..and refused to stand up to repeated attacks by Liberal politicians and media

GW Bush was bigger liberal than Romney ever was.

Dubya’s retired. It seems to me that in order to be the elephant in the room, you have to be, you know, in the room. And speaking of party brands, after a run of Jimmy Carter-Fritz Mondale-Mike Dukakis-Bill Clinton-Al Gore-John Kerry-and-now-Barack Obama, it’s something of a wonder the Democrats’ brand image in this country hasn’t settled around the level of Union Carbide’s in Bhopal in 1985.

President Dubya is a sincere man, a great American, and a brave and Churchillian president.

The left did their Alinskyite lying to tarnish artificially President Dybya's abilities, inner-strength, and record; but these will not stand the test of time, and will eventually stain the deceitful creeps instead.

Mister Obama and Mister Clinton can never posess the bravery and sincere concern for Country that has Dubya, and they will never enjoy the inner peace that comes with doing the right and honest things.

Landon also didn’t bother to campaign much. He was the last guy who pretty much STOOD for election.

Now this George W. Bush fellow this article is about, WHO is that? I don’t remember that guy.

Those capable of critical thought understand Bush was an utter disaster. So bad, a neighborhood block Communist out of Chicago replaced him. So bad, he nearly made American citizenship all but pointless.

“....George Bush and his failed presidency.”

That BDS is tough on some. You must still have the stinky rash that goes with it.

I find it curious that at a critical time when it is paramount that we get that scum Obama out of our White House, you bring out the old Bush’s fault argument. I smell something here, maybe it’s your BDS, maybe it’s some other lib infection. You might want to see a doctor... I’ve heard some of that stuff can make you crazy and grow hair on the palms of your hands.

George Bush Jr. made Barak Obama POSSIBLE....
Brilliant gambit really...

Spend like a democrat and make your base DESPISE YOU....
Then do not defend yourself against charges of profligate spending.. which are TRUE...

Making it possible for democrats to spin the most outrageous yarn of HOPE AND CHANGE..
Brilliant and it worked...

That is BS. They did the same thing to every Republican President, politician including Palin.

You may not like what I am going to say; but I am going to say it. Richard Nixon was a great statesman. He knew how to handle foreign policy. He did it by acting crazy, believe it or not. He may have been somewhat paranoid according to what they say and he did wrong in Watergate; but he was also setup.

“It’s going to take a number of years for the GOP to get out from under the unpopularity of George Bush and his failed presidency.”

Its going to take even longer if his idol worshippers, as evidenced by the sickening posts on this thread, keep wearing the rose colored glasses. Dumbo Dubya screwed this country up something fierce and made Obama possible. Period. The End. Only until folks on the right recognize that and repudiate him and what he stood for will things change.
