NJ governor pledges to vote Romney despite praising Obama

(Reuters) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie defended his praise for President Barack Obama after superstorm Sandy, but said he would stick with his fellow Republicans and vote for Mitt Romney in Tuesday's election.

"I endorsed Mitt Romney 13 months ago because I thought he was the best guy for the job," Christie said on Sunday during a news conference, reaffirming his support for the Republican candidate.

But support for Romney does not mean that he cannot appreciate the "good job" that Obama did while responding to the historical storm that hit the U.S. Northeast last week, Christie said. Sandy knocked out power to some 2.4 million New Jersey residents.

Christie, a popular governor widely seen as a possible Republican presidential contender in 2016, had frustrated some in the Romney campaign who feared he had given what could be a critical boost to Obama, a Democrat.

He showed up for a photo-op and a Governor licked his toes.

Obama called Christie and said, "I've got Fudge!!!!!! Hershey's Chocolate Kisses......We're talkin' Haagen Dazs here, what do you say?"

You mention FEMA running out of water, etc -

Back at the beginning of the year, FEMA spent 1 BILLION dollars for 140 MILLION meals - dehyrated food - for emmergency situations.

They’re sitting on millions of dollars worth of food - and people are starving. Someone needs to start screaming!

Just WHAT and WHO are they stockpiling that food for - is it stored with the Dept of HS’s 450 million hollow point bullets that they claim is only “for target practice” - Hollow points are not for target practice - unless the target is human.

>>I wonder when his champion Anne Coulter is going to come out and opine on this disgrace. He has proven himself sophomoric.<<

Ann Coulter is a disgrace herself, uttering the STUPID remark in 2010 about “If we don’t nominate Christie we’ll get Romney and we’ll lose.”

Then she went on Bill Maher’s show and said her fling with Christie was like a fling with a biker.

Anyone who gives that emaciated, egotistical shrew any credibility after that needs their head examined.

Ann Coulter says that if we don’t run Chris Christie for President, then Romney will win the nomination and we’ll lose in 2012:

I have relatives that still have no power, can only buy $30 worth of gas if there's any left when they finally get to the station, and if they hadn't of stocked up would be running short on food and water.

What exactly did Obama do?

Christie went above and beyond what the circumstances required in his praise. There is a difference in being polite, non-partisan, and co-operative vs slobbering love fest.

It was kinda like the Nobel Peace Prise - given in advance of any real acheivement.

CC looked like a CHILD in his walkabout with Obama....A FAT KID in white tennis shoes kissing up to the FORMER child. He actually made Obama seem like an adult.

1 - There was no need to be effusive.

2 - Niceties are fine - but high praise has to be earned. This is the equivalent of Bush and his “Brownie” comment giving credit not only before the job is done but evidently just before the disaster of a response is exposed.

YES!

you speak from thought and wisdom and big picture.

many others speaking from emotion and not looking at immediate need of all those in dire need in storm effected areas.

yes mitt will win, but nj , nyc, and the other states without power still and major damage need help now, can’t wait for jan 20th for help to come with inaug of mitt.

I back christie’s reasoning, though not all his words - a bit over the top for my likling, but he did his bidding for help for those in nj some of which strongly effected are my relatives.

What's done is done. I wasn't pleased about it... but at the same time, it's important to not let the media play us for fools with this "Obama is surging with independents because of Sandy" nonsense. If the country is really to the point where people will overlook four disastrous years, and vote for a president mostly because he visited a state for an hour and shook somebody's hand... then the country is lost. But I highly doubt that.

Spot on!

It’s hilarious how many says he’s finished that don’t even live in NJ.

Lots of conservatives gave praise to Obama when Osama was killed.
Are we supposed to vote all of those people out of office also tomorrow?

"I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him."

Y'all need to read your Bard, Julius Caesar, (Mark Anthony at the Forum).

With glowing praise of the folks who instituted 'regime change' Mark Anthony set in motion that which guaranteed they'd never be in power.

By pushing the meme that Duh-1 would be fixing everything, when that doesn't happen it only adds a bitter sting to the fact that once again, there are Zero results.

In effect, Christie passed the football to Obama and the Feds by effusively cooperating with them, now they own any failure.

Seems artful to me.

Who are these people swayed by Christies remarks?
I’d encourage everyone to hop on a plane to NJ and see how the people here actually feel about the situation.

Maybe hang around a while and do something useful .
