Massive Decrease in Early and Absentee Voting—in Chicago
Weekly Standard ^ | November 3, 2012 | By DANIEL HALPER

The Illinois Republican party claims early and absentee voting has precipitously fallen since the 2008 presidential election.

According to the numbers, at this point in 2008, there were 260,376 early voters and 304,290 absentee voters. Now, the party maintains, there are 195,064 early voters and 46,232 absentee voters. That's a loss of 57 percent of voters, since the last election.

This, the Illinois Republican party says, is a terrible sign for Democrats.

"Chicago is the heart and soul of the Democratic Party," says Illinois Republican party chair Pat Brady. "You can't get much more solid blue than Chicago and of course it's the President's home base - literally. If voter participation in the President's home base is down 57% from four years ago, the President is in serous trouble nationally."

(cut)

But the numbers provided by the state's Republican party are different than what's appearing in the local papers.

“.....I think the Chicago drop in Dem voters is interesting and does show lack of interest in Obama this time around but, I don’t think Ill is in play.
*******************************************************************
I agree that Illinois is not in play at the presidential level. However, if this huge drop-off in interest by the Democrat voters is replicated (even to a lesser degree) elsewhere in Illinois, the Illinois Democrats’ plans to gerrymander more Democrat US Congress critters into office is in trouble. And THAT would be good news indeed.

Here is a map of how Illinois voted in 2010:

As you can see, most of the state is red, but we can’t out vote Cook County. If votes are way down in Cook, Illinois just might be in play!

Where ambitious prayers of petition are concerned, asking for Illinois to flip is probably a bridge too far. But if that were to actually occur, all the videos of the thunderstruck mediots would keep me smiling for years.

Perhaps General Patton's "weather prayer" might successfully be adapted:

******************

Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call upon Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies and establish Thy justice among men and nations.

*******************

I'm no wordsmith... anyone else want to take a crack at it?

I wonder why PEW over sampled dems by +6 if they concede Romney has edge in turn out!

It’s contradictory, and I think that’s what has a lot of analysts looking at these polls and saying who hold on a minute.

Those people aren’t too thrilled that the Obamas get to call a $40 million,10-star estate in Hawaii home while the rest of his people languish in their crumbling Chicago projects.

They’re probably taking a play from the Seattle playbook, where they have a history of “losing” boxes and boxes of ballots until Tuesday night and they can determine what’s needed to push them over the line.

“WE AGAIN PRAISE THE GOD OF OUR FATHERS”

To our shame, our devotions became casual,
Even though YOU have always been there.
When our nation was born, and later, when torn,
By the threats which oft led to despair.

How soon we forgot “Founding Fathers”,
Whose success against tyrants was due
To YOUR care, to YOUR love, to YOUR hands from above,
Which created the miracle we view.

Through the years, tyranny kept returning,
And our need made us reach out again,
And we pled, and we cried, and the best of us died,
Fighting enemies of freedom and sin.

New perils now prompt new petitions,
We must relearn lessons lost from the past,
Without THY protection, and enduring affection,
We will lose THIS FREE LAND that must last.

No rights reserved. “God is in the Game, once again.” We are not talking “creeds; doctrines; chapels/synagogues/cathedrals”.
We are talking about faith in a Supreme Being, however we envision such, and WHOSE “ALMIGHTY HAND MADE AND PRESERVED THIS NATION”.

Pray, contribute, encourage, BELIEVE, and then vote to make belief—reality. IT WILL COME.

ROMNEY & RYAN WIN BIG..just two days from now.

PEW is a bunch of Dems, and for Dems, math is hard.

While Ann is an extraordinarily hot 50 yr old woman, she is delusional if she thinks IL is in play.

That said, I was able to waltz in and vote at the 45th ward (NW side, 16th district station) at 9am last week and was the first (& only) person in line. Granted, the 45th ward of Chicago is the only part of the city which is 50/50 R/D. But there is little, if any, enthusiasm in this part of Chicago for the Kenyan messiah this election cycle.

I wonder if this is related to the fact that there are MANY more Republican election judges at the polling places. Remember the call a few weeks ago for applicants for those spots?
