I have a neighbor who flew to China to run on the great wall in some dopey race. I agree with the others who say these “runners” are self centered narcissists. They are. It’s all about how the run makes them feel and their perception that they are so freaking cool because they run. Big deal, they over exercise and wear out their knees before they are 40, great. Yeah, that’s real freaking cool.
My niece is NOT narcissistic. She is a very athletic, competitive girl. I took up running after my first triple bypass, and there’s a great deal of personal satisfaction in doing five miles before work.
