Another Obama-supporting newspaper jumps ship...
(Excerpt) Read more at newsday.com ...
Bill Moyers is sad.
Oh my!
Whoa...
THIS is a stunner.
I’m 64 years old. Newsday has been the Democratic paper on Long Island for as long as I can remember.
Good!
wondering who the New York Daily News is going to endorse...
And intentionally waiting until the last minute to do so.
“That’s gonna hurt, Bob!”
It is as stunning to me to see the 200 people show up to see Stevie Wonder today, as it was to see XX,000 show up in Denver or Chicago in 2008.
What are people thinking?!?
Hell, I thought the King of Sanctimony was dead. I haven't seen him in years. Glad to hear he's just sad instead.
It's nice to know there is some greater smugness in the universe than Charlie Rose.
I can not believe this! I thought this was a joke at first.
He’s dead Jim.....
This is INCREDIBLE!!!!!
Jaw-dropper. This is a liberal paper. Forever. (I know you know this- but I’m in shock)
Maybe the reality of the aftermath of Sandy is FINALLY sinking in.
I’d have figured obama was a shoe in for NYS. Our presidential vote is always a throw away vote because of NYC.
I will still be shocked if NY doesn’t go to obama.
I hope the good folks on Long island and throughout the states of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey wise up and join the overwhelming rest of our country in supporting Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan. The Obama campaign, including the Democrat party is in freefall. I might even suggest that California broom Obama for obvious and clear cut reasons!!! You do not have be a brain wizard to figure that one out!!! No matter......California will be hung out to dry & die when Rpmney/Ryan win on Tuesday evening....just like our fellow Americans in Libya, killed by murderer Obama because of his lack of interest, attention and proactive action!!! Thanks, Newsday. I lived on long Island for fifty years and never saw Newsday endorse any Republican for POTUS!!!
*picking jaw off the floor*
They surely see the writing on the wall and do not want to be on the wrong side of history.
Bam is TOAST. *bigcheesygrin*
First Presidential election since Cablevision bought NewsDay, the Dolan family are jousting with the Kushner family’s newly purchased newspapers.
Ying to the Yang.
smelling salts please!
We have just witnessed a miracle!
Did not know that. Certainly explains the endorsement.
Newsday had been lost for decades.
Surely Obama’s shining “Sandy” moment would erase four years of historic failure, systematic deception, and endless excuses.
this was a surprise
” - - - Elected with a significant mandate and his party briefly in control of both houses of the Congress, Obama squandered the support of the nation.
Newsday endorses Romney.”
This is a brave Editor. True, he/she waited to endorse Romney with the minimum amount of time remaining for the commie/union/Mafia goons to come in and “persuade” Newsday to toe the party line.
This Editor is from the JFK wing of the once proud Democrat Party. The wing that gave our Nation the ringing goal of “Ask not what your Country can do for you [= need], ask rather what you can do [ability] for your Country.”
Fast forward to today and JFK’s statement is reversed, but they still call themselves Democrats.
What Benghazi-Coward Obama has done is to rob all dignity from his office, and rob our Country of Hope.
I credit the storms of Irene (14 months ago) and Sandy with part of Newsdays choice of support for Romney. Romney is a bean-counter. He loves data. He loves planning.
Irene came 14 months ago, flooded the lower parts of NYCity, BUT NO FEDERAL CHANGES WERE MADE before Sandy flooded the same areas, only more so.
Obama failed to plan, and thus he planned to fail.
Newsday is the shorter fraternal twin of the NY Times. This is beyond shocking.
The comments are illustrative - not one of them can defend Obama, they just trash Romney.
I didn’t know Cablevision bought Newsday. Thanks!
Crazy, right? Just waiting for the trifecta when the Daily News comes on board! :)
Daily News is not on the right but they are nowhere near NY Times / Newsday which are both leftist crap. Romney is a perfect Republican for the Daily News to endorse. It would not shock me at all if they did so.
Not a shocker since Zuckerman endorsed W in 2004. However, it will be a surprise to their Obama-loving readers. :)
I still say it is going to be close in Gnu Yak...Sandy may have closed the deal. Doomberg and Cuomo aren’t long for this political world either....Vote Wendy Long!
“And intentionally waiting until the last minute to do so.”
You realize, of course, there were more immediate and pressing matters going on on Long Island over the past week or so????
How could we not? But, that may not have anything to do with this endorsement running on the editorial page when it did.
And they had to hold the editorial page open last Fri or Sat for what reason?
One could check the timing of former Newsday endorsements, but usually newspapers do them in the last week or two before the election. LINY was fully consumed for days before and certainly since with the effects of Sandy.
Some out there still don’t have power. A LINY friend just got her power back today, has to deal with the total loss of her car, flooding on the lower level of her house, and still considers herself one of the lucky ones. I doubt she much cares who Newsday endorses, much less when they did the endorsement.
oh, gee, no one knew last Friday or Saturday that a major storm was heading to Long Island !!! Are you series? *I* was out doing my shopping and preps on Friday and we weren’t in the same line as LINY.
Hve been secretly hoping so.
Hurricaine Sandy got to them, Hurricaine Hussein, as well.
NY went for Reagan, hey.
It has been interesting that these newspapers have endorsed the Republican ticket. I was wondering about this and the only explanation I have is that they know if the current economic conditions continue or worsen, many of these newspapers will have to shut down and these reporters will be looking at a career change. They know that the Romney ticket offers a better chance of survival. So survival trumps ideology.
Are you SURE Christ hasn’t returned?
Are you SURE Christ hasn’t returned?
7 days ago (which was before Sandy)would still be considered LAST MINUTE.
Seven days ago was 10/27; WaPo put out its entirely predictable endorsement 10/25. Was that “last minute?” By whose standards?
What Is Your Point with all this hair splitting of the definition of what "last minute" is?
Think about it.
Have no idea what your preparations or the hurricane have anything to do with a newspaper making a presidential endorsement.
When Reagan won, me and my parents were ecstatic but STUNNED as it unfolded that night.
I am doing everything I can to resist getting that feeling until I begin to see the same hopefully unfolding Tuesday night.
But it sure is tempting to start feeling that way.
excuse me, but YOU, fan, introduced “LAST MINUTE” in caps (#40) after nucobvert introduced the concept at #9. So wtf are you talking about? Nuconvert objected to the paper’s purposely withholding its endorsement until the”last minute” as if on LINY they had nothing to do but worry about editorial endorsements. Maybe some people ought to think before they post preposterous conspiratorial notions. How about that?
Bam Bam ship... the good ship folly props.
It is as possible that they purposely waited until this date for other reasons as it is that they did it because of the storm.
Last minute was more than a week ago, it's today and everyday from now until election day.
Publisher Rufus Friday of Lexington, KY endorsed Romney today. Another paper in the midwest endorsed Romney today. And others in the midwest. We don't know if it's because of the storm when Newsday did it. There was no flooding in Lexington or Colorado.
Even in Oct of 1917 Lenin believed it was too soon to stage the revolution. Among the reasons: he did not think the Russian banks were centralized enough, nor other markets solid enough, to support the nation at that point.
The lesson?
Leftism depends on the benefits of markets and investment for the pot of gold from which it must steal to exist.
Lefty organizations like Newsday might be seeing that all the social programs they so love will soon be in jeopardy if Obama’s lame economy persists.
Their view could be: Let Romney re-invigorate the free market and then we’ll find someone to endorse who can “rightfully” steal from it.
The only thing that matters is that we see Obama concede on tuesday night. That’s all. And I know we both want to see that.
This is good! We have to get out in force to drive up Mitts popular vote!!
