Concerns raised over possible exploitation of mentally disabled voters

Jimmy Green's stepdaughter had never voted before. The 57-year-old is mentally disabled, and Green said she doesn't understand the concept of casting a ballot.

But this week, she called her parents to say she had voted for President Obama. The care home in Fayetteville where she lives registered its residents to vote and drove them to the polls, Green said.

"My concern is that somebody told her who to vote for," he said. "She didn't even know there's two different parties."

Complaints of uncomprehending voters being ferried to cast ballots surface every election. And in a presidential race as close as this year's, with huge levels of early voting, any perceived irregularity is falling under intense scrutiny.

But federal and state laws are very clear - there is no competency test for voting.

"The law specifically says that anyone with a disability is allowed to have assistance from anyone that they choose," said Terri Robertson, director of the Cumberland County Board of Elections. "As long as they can communicate to us in some way that they need assistance and who they wish to have assistance from, the law allows it."

My Mom worked the afternoon shift in a rest home.

She said it was the same thing every election. All the droolers got absentee ballots and the day shift made sure they were filled out “the right way”.

I worked as a part time counselor at a group home for adult mentally retarded while I was in college. The lib counselors were hauling clients to the polls in vans and telling them how to vote.

Maybe there should be. A person who is mentally incompetent to fill out legal documents should be considered as mentally incompetent to vote. It is clear they are in no condition to make a rational decision on how to vote.

If people in this circumstance have legal guardians then this should be against the law.

I’m sure the employees in such facilities are paid bribes by the Democrat Party in order to do this.

People who are not their own guardians should only vote in the presence of a legal guardian. However logically people that are not their own legal guardian should not vote at all. We do not let children vote who are not legally adults.

Come up with a better term for the patients tied to their wheel chair to keep them from falling out, that have a towel tied around their neck to catch the drool from their mouth that’s hanging open and a vacant eyed stare into space.

They are all Democrat voters - the staff makes sure of that.

Rest homes - where the modern family can ship off the old folks so they don’t have to deal with them - or even visit them.

Wonder how many Conservative families would be surprised to know Granny voted for Obama.

This is how pathetic The Zero really is.

He’ll take a vote from anyone, anything to get him and his like-minded minions there “revenge”.

Obama, I spit on you.

Fine. No competency tests. But if a person has been declared legally incompetent, that is, he has a legal guardian to manage his affairs, then he may not be registered to vote.

That is a bit ridiculous. You must be competent to enter into a contract. How does that not extend to voting? Clearly, liberals have made a "civil-rights" issue out of a straight legal issue, just as they have managed to do with voter i.d.

“I worked as a part time counselor at a group home for adult mentally retarded while I was in college. The lib counselors were hauling clients to the polls in vans and telling them how to vote.”

That was done out here in Wino Land for decades. I posted on FR how I parked my OJ Simpson Bronco past the 150’ or what ever it was at the time. I put a folding chair on the tailgate and part in the back of the OJ mobile and sat there with my camera. To take pictures of anyone doing what you posted at my voting place.

The rat poll watcher turned me into the police. When, I used my son’s range finder to show the cop, that I was past outside the boundary. The cop laughed and asked what I was doing. I said waiting to take pictures of the vans of people being dragged in to vote. He laughed and then told the rat, I was legal and what I was doing, and he left and gave me a crisp military salute, which I returned.

A few hours later, a friend a big Bubba pulled up in his big 4X4 red pickup, and I moved my suv so he could park there. He got out and set up a chair in his truck bed. Then, he set down with a cooler of soft drinks, a base ball bat and a large telephoto camera on a tri pod. Then, he gave the Rat poll watcher the famous one finger salute. I drove by the rat and told him to make our day with vans of mentally unable and illegal voters. Then, I saluted him and drove off.

The Democrats have been doing since at least the 1940s. If it is a Republican district, parents or guardians have gone to the lengths of getting a judge to declare their child ineligible to vote, so when somebody tries to register them it is rejected. In Democrat areas they register them and vote them anyway, ignoring the court order.

We have that problem, too. Btw, she did get her proper i.d., and she did cast a vote.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) A 60-year-old Knoxville woman who has voted in every election since she registered at age 18 was stopped from casting a ballot in the Aug. 2 primary.

"According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, poll workers told Libby Miller the photo ID from the Knoxville Transportation Authority she presented wasn't sufficient proof of who she is.

State law now requires voters to have a state or federally issued photo ID.

After an hour-long wait at a driver license center, Miller who is mentally challenged was told the cost would be $17.50 for an ID state officials had announced was free." http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/sep/14/mentally-challenged-knoxville-woman-denied-vote/

This is how pathetic The Zero really is.

I have direct knowledge of this happening at least 40 years.

This became much easier once the old folks siblings were convinced that their parents would really prefer to die in that nice (smelly)retirement home, rather than die in their own bed, with their loved ones around them.
