PHILADELPHIA First there was quiet. Then came the super PACs. Now the candidate is on his way.
In a striking last-minute shift, the Romney campaign has decided to invest its most precious resource the candidates time in a serious play to win Pennsylvania.
Mr. Romneys appearance here on Sunday could be a crafty political move to seriously undercut President Obama, or it could be a sign of desperation. Either way, his visit represents the biggest jolt yet in a state that was until recently largely ignored in the race for the White House.
Over the last several days, with polls showing Mr. Obamas edge in the state narrowing, Republicans have sprung into action and forced the Democrats to spend resources here that could have gone toward more competitive battleground states.

For an article printed in the New York Times, this seems pretty hopeful.
Obama may well be cool. But we need a man not a man-child. Cool be damned.
No Slimes, it is not 'a sign of desperation' but confidence. It is however, a sign of the New York Times whining and worry.
Dont know why the Times would say it was desperate. Romney has more money than Obama. He could just pay for a fleet of buses to transport people to polls in Ohio or Iowa, plus pay for dinner and a babysitter.
Why would the run to PA if they were desperate? Wouldn’t another state be more winnable? I mean PA hasn’t went Red in two decades.
Why would the Democrats spend money unless they were really afraid of losing?
Cool, as in Benghazi executioner.
Tom Smith is running for the US Senate in Pennsylvania. He has a chance of beating Casey and I’m praying he does. He comes from the world of coal and farming and made his money in coal. He is not a lawyer. A good man to donate to.
Romney’s coattails can pull Tom Smith over the top!
They just write what Asselrod tells them to.
+ Could be they see PA as more in play
- Could be desperation time and Romney sees need to pre-empt Ohio as the make or break state...
Well, Slimes, it isn't just well-heeled suburbs. I live in a working class suburb with the average home price of around $140K, if that. There is one, single solitary jag-off with an Obama sign and scores of us with RR signs in our low-end neighborhood.
Interestingly, the Obama sign is one of the most expensive homes in the neighborhood. We suppose them to be an elitist who works for Fedzilla.
If he doesn't think Ohio is winnable, then PA might be his only hope. I pray this is not the case. I want 270 EVs, not a bunch of states where we were "close".
Because they believe they can win PA. Because they got Ohio wrapped up. Because they are expanding their winning error margin campaigning in former OBot states. Because they don’t believe the DUmb media polls that jerk you guys around so easily.
You gotta know how to win, and people here love to fret about losing.
I’m thinking it more likely that Tom Smith’s coattails could pull Romney over the finish line here. I haven’t seen a single Casey sign in our neighborhood. Even on the lawn of the jag-off with the Obama sign.
No, the internals favor Romney in taking Ohio.
I think part of this strategy, to target Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Minnesota, is to force Obama to defend these states and not spend the final weekend in Ohio.
He does his due diligence, unlike a childish, jug-eared, village communist.
Paul Ryan is going to Minnesota on Sunday for God’s sake!!
Would be completely pointless if they weren’t confident in their standing in other important States.
R/R are going for a EV MANDATE now.
this Ø not this à .. forgot, no html in tags, dammit

RT @justkarl: Early voting in OH. 2008: 1,628,013. 10/30/12: 1,257,320.
Again, Obama won 08 by 260,000 and piled up a 20 point lead in early voting. Still think it will be close?"
They would suggest it may signal that Romney is giving up on Ohio (and maybe other states) and is pinning his hopes on a real long shot, PA. That would be sort of desperate if that's what's going on. Or it could be that he feels his chances in PA are at least as strong as his chances in OH and he wants a shot to take one or both of the two. That's strategy, not desperation. Which is it? Probably we'll find out on election day.
Obamies coattails may pull the Senate off the cliff.
Pray for America
You might be right! I have family in PA who tell me what is going on
Where will Romney be in PA on Sunday? I would love to go and support him.
If you want on/off the PA Ping List, please freepmail me.
If you see posts of interest to Pennsylvanians, please ping me.
Romney will be in Morrisville, PA - Shady Brook Farms on Sunday.
2:30 doors open
They must be expecting a large crowd with that kind of fill up time.
LOL! Slimes is whistling past the graveyard!
It’s Lower Makefield ,go to the website to get tickets.
Cool as in he shuts down coal electric plants so we all freeze in the dark.
I see it as desperation. If he doesn’t need PA to win, why come here? The only reason to leave OH is if it’s lost. Even if he was ahead in OH, he should stay there just to be certain, rather than dump money into a potential black hole in PA. How would he explain wasting money in PA if he lost it and also lost OH by a tiny margin?
If OH is lost, the best way to make up for OH is with CO, WI and NH. McCain/Palin campaigned their butts off in PA and had a huge loss. And no Republican’s won here since 1988. WI has a worse track record, but Paul Ryan and Scott Walker are good cards to play.
Romney could also go for CO, NH, NV and IA instead of PA, OH or WI. NV and IA have voted for the Republican Prez as recently as 2004. And CO and NH have been polling well for Romney.
LOL. What a joke. The NYT had to put that in there to throw a small bone to its readers to keep them committing suicide out of despair.
Romney will be back here in Iowa tomorrow for his umpteenth visit.
The PAC and his radio ads have been wall-to-wall over the last week.
Because we have seen enough of him in Ohio. Romney is in Cincinnati tonight. Cleveland on Sunday (before he heads to PA) and Columbus on Monday. Paul Ryan will be in Youngstown on Monday too.
So let them do a PA trip, a Minnesota trip, a Wisconsin trip. This is like when Obama went to Indidana and Virginia where no D had won since 1964.
Also, Obama has little to no paid staff in PA. bwahahaha. Unlike Ohio where there are a ton of them.
later in life, it would be interesting to see how these two end up, one whose preference in men runs to ‘Mr Cool’ and one whose preference in men runs to ‘Mr Dependable’. One will married to a man who is a good father and has his home paid for, the other will be a single mom with three kids from three different ‘Mr Cools’, and dead broke with ruined credit living in a HUD apartment.
