SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF) - The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they could not help out in New Jersey unless they affiliated with a union.
Crews from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.
The general manager of Decatur Utilities, Ray Hardin told Fox Business they were presented documents from the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers at a staging area in Virginia. The documents stated they had to affiliate with a union to work, which the crews could not agree to.
Crews were told this was a requirement to work according to Hardin.
The crews were originally called to Seaside Heights, but they never made it to New Jersey. They attempted to look for work in other areas but made the decision late Thursday night to return home.
Moore said they're frustrated being told "thanks, but no thanks."
Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are up in storm ravaged areas working.
Joe Wheeler EMC said they did not respond to New Jersey, but did go up to Maryland and headed home once they were done.

Reminds me of the movie "Maverick", when Bret was hanging off the cliff, and would not let "pappy" help him get back up...until, he started to slip even further, then he begged for help.
It's OK...leave the unionheads to do all of the cleanup. Let the people who are suffering with no power see what the unions have done for them, delayed their recovery for an extended period when they could have accepted a helping hand and expedited the process.
As the pressure builds to get things going, they just might ask the Alabama (and other) crews to pitch in and help out. But, then it might be too late, and the others crews might tell them to stuff it.
I wouldn't live in a union state for a free house, free car, and a million dollar salary.

Pretty messed up for an emergency. I could sort of see it if they were earning money in NJ, but not this.

No it’s not.
I predicted Tuesday that the Mob wouldn’t be very happy missing their cut of the union dues and bid rigging.
This after someone suggested how thrilled Gov. Christie would be to have utility crews come in from other states.

Agree. You really cannot over-generalize as I am sure there are some normal folks affected by the storm, but for me, I saw the handwriting on the wall and got the he— out of NJ a long time ago. As the people in Benghazi learned, liberals and communists are dangerous to themselves and you. The closer you are to them, the more likely you will become collateral damage. As was demonstated in the cold war years, you either point weapons at them and keep them boxed in or just shoot for effect. That is the way of the world.

“More likely the idea started in the home company’s headquarters and some idiot called a union rep somewhere else ~ e.g. New Jersey.”
When you say Home Company who do you mean? The Nj or Bama company?

Why does that almost sound like a liberal, union supporter? Because I believed a freeper on a different thread?

Either one. Can't imagine a union thug who'd want to give up all this opportunity for unsupervised overtime coming to Virginia to tell these guys what to do and risk ending up in court for engaging in prohibited activity.
So it has to take place in some other state ~ and that would be?

To place any blame on the Alabama crews is wrong. The blame lies with the Union Thugs in NJ.

No. Because you always seem to have the most centrist opinion on every thread you pop up on. Telling everyone that this is a lie (which it is not) fits right in with that line of thinking.

Perhaps you should re-route this to the freeper that said it had been debunked.
What is wrong with a centrist opinion? There can be no sides with out a middle, can there?
