Despair sets in for some Coney Island residents as living conditions deteriorate rapidly

‘We are Katrina’ says one desperate resident. ‘Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us.’

At a 12-unit apartment building at West 23rd near Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island, several tenants are huddled together in one room where human waste is spilling out of the toilet. They need help, and are at a loss explaining why assistance is getting to them faster.

"We have no food or water. Why isn't anyone helping us," asked tenant Aeising Cancel.

"We are scavenging for food like animals," said another tenant Jeffery Francis. "We are in a crisis and no one will help us. Look at us. We are misery. Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us. Nothing. We are Katrina."

At an apartment building at 3024 W 23rd the power is still out and residents are out of food.

"The food is gone. We are scrapping for food. One person found a sandwich and we split it four ways," said resident 58-year-old Albert Miller

It will be interesting to see how relief efforts are affected by the “elements” (looting, etc.) in these areas as compared to, say, Joplin, MO and MS relief efforts.

Maybe the FEMA CZAR should add an option to the kit when an event is going to hit a metro area—The FEMA portable inhouse toilet kit!!!

Now I know where those females are from...you know, the ones that keep using stopped up toilets in bars, haa!

Guess it’s time for Obama to reload on the tire pressure gauges and add a plunger to that list! FEMA best call China for a crate or two of them!

Adult diapers are probably disappearing from care homes!!

That would solve the toilet problems and come to think of it I might just add that to my emergency kit even though it sounds sort of iky...

And if you live a few floors up, it could take weeks for the apartments downstairs to fill with sewage. :)

Yet another application of Sun Tzu's admonition to always hold the high ground.

If Christie can hang this on Obama after playing nice-nice for the first couple days, I will like him a whole lot more than ever before.

Handy storage container when not needed, takes little space, use a trash bag for a liner and a couple pounds of cat litter as absorbent = easy, no mess disposal.

I whole heartedly agree. I still remember the comments when Texas was burning and other states with wild fires. Those libtards were happy then. To all the good people, I hope they had enough sense to prepare. To all the demonrat voters in those cesspools that believe that they are so much more important than fly over country, I don’t care. Odummer is your hero, big government your savior. If they fail you, blame yourself.

Why are they bitching?

Screw ‘em

Why do we care about the east coast. A bunch of libs dictating how we should live. If they can't take care of themselves, why should we care? I'm sick and tired of supporting the east. Let them fend for themselves.

...it sure looks like Manhattan is getting most of the attention

Never underestimate the laziness of the media. Reporting what you see from your seat at Starbucks is easier than having to schlep all the way out to Queens.

“...why should we care?”

Because they’re AMERICANS, that’s why!

I’ve got lots of friends downstate from Long Island and every one of them are good hard-working Conservatives. They are also gun owners and hunters.

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Back off.

That's a great idea. Do they sell those lids separately? I already have buckets and liners. In the old days in other countries (WWII) people put a couple boards over a barrel to sit on. And used a cloth they carried to wipe themselves. People nowadays are so spoiled.

"The backed up plumbing thing would be awful."

If you are in a house and the sewer may back up, find the sewer connection outside your house and turn it off. If you are a prepper, you know how to get rid of human waste. If you are not a prepper and don't know about ways to deal with human waste, find out.

“Especially living in dense urban areas shouldn’t people be more prepared if the wheels fall off (or anything else falls off for that matter.)”

They have never prepared because they see water coming out of pipes every day and plenty of food everywhere in their “dense urban area.” Since it is “dense”, their living space is probably small so where would they store water and food? Someone might see it if they couldn't hide it and they don't want to be thought of as “hoarders”. These people will die soon from lack of water if they don't find good water soon.

The elderly, bless their hearts, they can't get down the stairs of a high rise or medium rise, and I think they are going to be found dead from lack of water. If they live alone and don't have any younger friends to check on them, they don't stand much of a chance.

I hope help comes to all very soon, whether they are black, white, liberal, or conservative. First, they are people and need help. (However, shoot the looter criminals.)
