A late surge of support and months of restrained spending have left the Republican National Committee flush with cash with little time to spend it $68 million as of Oct. 17, which was nearly seven times the amount the Democratic National Committee had in the bank.
Adding in the cash from other presidential campaign committees, the mismatch still was stark: $156 million for Mitt Romney and his GOP allies to $94 million for President Obama and his allies. State Republican parties also had 50 percent more cash than their Democratic counterparts, according to an analysis by The Washington Times.
Its likely that means a surge of GOP spending is coming. Whats unclear is what form it will take, and RNC officials declined to tip their hand.
I can guarantee you we will spend it all and wisely, Reince Priebus, chairman of the RNC, told The Times.
The last-minute strategy poses opportunities and challenges.
The difference in cash on hand allows Mr. Romney to project the image of momentum by dramatically ramping up the scale of his campaign in the final days, suddenly spending far more heavily on ads, mailers and telemarketers.

Hope they’re funding Todd Akin now. McCaskill needs to be stopped ASAP!!!
cash is king
They will still get outspent by the Democrats, because Democrats have no problem spending money they don’t have.
This has been one of the most brilliantly run campaigns I have ever seen. Smooth as silk.
All the whiners and naysayers around these parts have had to shut up.
Of course, it has been up against a campaign run by Wile E. Coyote. But still.
Ain’t that the truth.
They need to use most of the money to help Republican Senate candidates in close elections.
The only way to ever get rid of Obamacare is if Romney beats Obama, the Republicans hold control of the House AND the Republicans take control of the Senate. Any two out of three and Obamacare is here to stay.
I’d create ads using Obama video over the last week and Romney responding to the things he says. It would be firm and fair, and drop the hammer.
50% more cash!!??
This actually irritates me. The RNC has called & called & called us, & we’ve refused to donate. We tell them we can’t get donations for our local candidates because the RNC is soaking up everyone’s available funds. If we’d just had $10k we would have had enough to match the other side for local radio ads.
The RNC should spend the next year raising money for blue areas that need extra help!
Couldn’t agree with you more. Romney has run a great campaign, and we all know how much the deck has been stacked against him. A victory would be momentous in so many ways.
When we take power we need to make our first target the media. It has reached a level of shamelessness which cannot be tolerated.
