What you say about Detroit, Wayne Co., and W. Michigan might be true, but according to Michael Barone, the key to Michigan being competitive is Romney gaining ground in the Detroit suburbs, more specifically Oakland and Macomb counties. Bush broke even with Kerry in those counties in '04, but Zero won them by 134,000 votes in '08.
