BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
A burglar got more than he bargained for when he targeted the wrong house in Jefferson County.
The woman he was trying to steal from fought back and shot him.
"I was awakened with a gun in my face hollering 'give me all yo money and give me all yo jewelry' and I screamed 'I don't have any money and I don't have any jewelry,'" the victim, who does not want to be identified, said. "That didn't satisfy [him]. Then he asked me about everyone in my house during this time I'm fumbling to get my gun. He pushed me down. I got up fought back."
Deputy Chief Randy Christian from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says the suspect had an air rifle, similar to a BB gun.
"She didn't know that at the time, she thought it was loaded. He knew it though. Sometime during the struggle, he put that down took out a keyhole saw. He cut her a few times superficially with that," Christian said.
The victim was cut on her stomach and on her arm.
"Kept on fighting and another person in the house got up to see what the dogs were barking at and that distracted him. When that distracted him I finally got to my pistol and fired a round," the victim said.

Dep Chief:
Be advised, break into my residence (or whomever’s residence my hat may be hanging at) and I am NOT going to be checking for air gun, loaded or not.
You DON’T belong there. Also, if I feel threatened enough, I won’t be waiting for permission to ‘off’ the guy coming in.
I am old, feeble and constantly in ‘fear of my life’ so be very, very careful where you may tread with a piece, real or not.
Read (and believe - or not) what you may into that....
What a retarded response.
As a child I learned from my mistakes. As a man I try to only learn from other’s mistakes.
I am Safety Director for my company and have extensive training but I have never actually been killed in an explosion. By virtue of this fact should I resign and try to hire a guy with no experience or training but he is more qualified because he died in an explosion?
I have also been submerged in a tank of water in mockup of a helicopter to train for a downing at sea. Since that isn’t “real” I guess you would recommend that we all actually crash a helicopter in the gulf?
Her is a scenario for you. A crackhead breaks into Eaker’s home and Eaker shoots him until he is convinced that he is no longer a threat. The lab boys determine that he was shot multiple times while he was down. Eaker walks away.
Now his crackhead twin brother breaks in to HiTech’s home. HT shoots him once and determines that since Mr. crackhead is squirming around on the floor that he will take his own advice and not shoot again. Lo and behold crackhead wasn’t really squirming he was getting his own gun out of his baggy pants and shoots HT. It would be great if he gut shoots you so you can crawl to your computer, bring up this thread and admit you were wrong just before you die. The good news is you won’t have to go to court.
I am allowed by law to secure my person and property “by whatever means necessary”.
