It’s pretty obvious that the genocide had long been simmering, had multiple causes, and was the culmination of an extraordinary mess within and outside of the Ottoman empire, leading up to and subsequent to World War I.
If criticism against the Germans is to be leveled, it can be made on the basis of a mistake still being made, that is, the willingness of otherwise civil nations to support tyrannical regimes in other nations. For example, today we see Russia supporting Iran and Syria, and most of Europe supporting Arab tyrannies against Israel.
