Great article on why the national popular vote scheme is clearly and completely unconstitutional. This latest scheme to destroy the Electoral College is a clever, sneaky attempt to go around the original intent of the constitution written by the Founding Fathers, who did not intend for the President to be elected by a pure popular vote. No serious constitutional scholar could possibly support this slick attempt to go around the clear intent of our constitution (without a constitutional amendment).

Let all the blue states do this, and all the red states not do it.

Win for us, loss for them.

The Electoral College must be left in place, but we need to develop a strategy as to what to do if in 2012 or another year that the Republican wins the popular vote while losing the Electoral College vote.

The best strategy may be to encourage enough electors from states that go Democratic to switch their votes to the Republican candidate.

Or, make sure that the GOP always controls Congress so that when the vote of the Electoral College is certified that they take into account the popular vote.

While keeping the Electoral College is vital, there needs to be a mechanism to keep the presidency from being stolen by a current and perhaps future Democratic advantages in larger states.

The United States is a Federal Republic. E Pluribus unum means, of many republics, one union.

I would like to see California go to a split electoral vote by Congressional district and break the Dems 55-0 lock every election.

A blatant attempt to institutionalize voter fraud.

Most people would agree that the best voting system is one that maximizes the likelihood that their single vote can, by itself, turn the course of the election one way or another.

The Electoral College does that.

Our Framers specifically rejected direct, popular election and instituted the filter of electors chosen outside the reach of federal power. In this sense, the States were expected in most elections to serve as nominating conventions of five candidates for the House of Reps to choose from.

The states can choose to award votes based on a proportion of the popular vote and the electoral college will still survive.

But this won’t happen because then the liberals would lose their EV stranglehold on states like California.

If Americans want New York and California to run the nation, then they should go ahead and do this.

The real reason not to mess with the Founders design is that the Founders designed a republic and not a democracy. So, if we want to live under mob rule (pure democracy) then go right ahead. If, however, you want thoughtful men and women from various regions to come together as delegates to make decisions for the nation, including the representation of the regions from which they come, then continue with the Divinely inspired, ingenious plan put together by America’s Founding Fathers.
