They were alerted to the attack within the first hour. How would they know how long the attack would last? How would they know whether the personnel there could hang on or not? Are they still waiting for that FBI investigation before they think about a rescue mission?

If I call the Sheriff's office here and tell them someone is trying to break in I don't think they would tell me "we can't send anyone because it will probably all be over by the time we get there."
