At one time, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Iraq, etc. were all CHRISTIAN countries.
They were attacked by islamic armies and the populations were given the choice of being forced into islam, death or live as basically slaves.
And they support only smaller poulations. North Africa was a bredbasket for the Roman Empire. The Saracens converted it all to sheep pasture which converted it all to semi arid land unsuited for agriculture.
