Obama Pays Price for Backpedaling on Libya Attack
Fox News ^ | October 24, 2012 | Chris Stirewalt

..........State Department emails obtained by FOX News colleague Chad Pergram show that even as the fighting continued between Islamist militants and the tiny, doomed garrison at the U.S. outpost in Benghazi, high-ranking officials had reason to believe an al Qaeda was involved.

This comes on the heels of the revelation that top officials, and perhaps even the president himself, were able to watch the hours-long battle in real time as U.S. drone aircraft circled the besieged compound filming the slow-motion massacre.

The president knew, or ought to have known, about the involvement of al Qaeda and may have seen the attack unfold. In speeches the next day, he certainly suggested that he understood what had happened, referencing acts of terror in his Rose Garden remarks and then more explicitly calling the raid “terror” in a campaign speech in Las Vegas that night.

But then the administration and the president wheeled around and began focusing more on a YouTube video that was deemed offensive by Muslims. Rather than staying on his language about defiance in the face of terror and promising retribution, Team Obama backpedaled for two weeks, abandoning the president’s first posture.

That was a grave error.

Presumably, the decision to emphasize the idea of a spontaneous attack was intended to shield Obama from the question of how, given the warnings and given that it was the anniversary of 9/11, his team had allowed the attack to succeed.

Or how could American officials watch the massacre in real time but not send any aid to the doomed garrison? Or how had the situation in Libya, the centerpiece in Obama’s Middle East policy, so devolved that such a brazen attack was even possible?

Rather than face those questions, Obama sought to shift blame to the filmmakers and absolve his team of liability....

Shughart and Gordon asked to be set down in Mogadishu to try and save their fellow Americans. They had to know that it was probably a last stand for them. That’s courage. Those were warriors. It is an affront to their memory that no effort was made to help the Americans in Benghazi. I don’t care if all they could do was buzz them with a drone and then crash it into whoever they could find. I don’t care if American pilots had to land at an unsecured airport after dropping their ordinance because they were out of fuel. We’re Americans Goddamnit! We take care of each other when the bullets are flying. You think those New York Firefighters wanted to go up those stairs on 9/11? Those were warriors! They were by God going to try. Obama and Hillary need to resign because they’re chickenshit. I want to hear from the head of the Air Force and the head of the Navy about what could have been done. I don’t have any trust in Obama or Hillary or Biden or Panetta or Petraeus or Seymour. What the hell happened? Americans died!

Yeah? What “price” is Obama paying for his treason? I see none as the polls tighten again.

“Yeah? What “price” is Obama paying for his treason? I see none as the polls tighten again.”

My sentiments exactly.

Ya know CW, I'll never understand this.

This was the foreign policy triumph that Obama and his people had been looking for for a looooooong time and it was pretty easy to accomplish. Fly troops from italy as I understand things.

He not only flubs that, he turns around and makes it the biggest PR disaster in the history of the US Presidency.

Must have Mr Magoo as his prime advisor.

Quite WRONG.. there were two attacks in days preceding the deadly one but Obama PULLED security out of Bengahzi ON PURPOSE..

“THEY” knew it was going to happen AND AIDED IT!... they AIDED the attack..
It was a “HIT” on someone at the embassy.. maybe several people..

Vince Foster is turning in his grave...

Seems “facial recognition” should have given us the answer almost immediately! When you see Al Queda members on tape it might be a not so subtle hint! When it is Sept 11th one might consider a terrorist attack to be most likely! When you screw things up so badly, you might blame a lame video.

The non-Fox “News” media will do it’s best to spike this story.

From the article:

“In speeches the next day, he certainly suggested that he understood what had happened, referencing acts of terror in his Rose Garden remarks and then more explicitly calling the raid “terror” in a campaign speech in Las Vegas that night.”
