Maureen Sullivan Stemberg, ex-wife of Staples founder, sits in her $5,200 a month, 14th-floor, concierge-at-the-door, elegantly furnished Back Bay apartment and tells you she’s broke. She can’t work. She can’t afford a car, her medications, her rent, even the family springer spaniel, J.J., who she just gave away.
She produces doctors notes detailing medical woes: possible lupus, bouts of pneumonia requiring hospitalizations, a history of cancer, petit mal seizures, plus recommendations for thrice weekly psychotherapy and psychiatry. She says her insurance won’t cover mental health care.
“I’m going to be out on the street,” says Sullivan Stemberg, a tiny, 50-ish woman who alternates between an overanxious recitation of worries, and tears. “I’ve had a change of circumstances.”

Axelrod’s (and anyone that doesn’t think that he is behind this doesn’t know his history) and Allred’s idea, presumably, is to tap into the anger of any divorced woman that feels like she got screwed by “the system”. I would think Obama would already have the market cornered on the angry female vote, but perhaps not . . . .

Yup, that’s not going to get sympathy from anyone. Man, pissing 4 million away on lawyers. She could have found some inveestment that could have made 10% a year safely. Greed. Unabashed greed gets you from 4 million to broke.
Lawyers are happy, though.
Unless Romney touched her I don't see what the issue is other than his business partner can't keep the same wife. She sounds pretty unbalanced to me.

If this was such an important case for “women everywhere”, which she’ll stress, I’m sure, media whore Allred would have taken the case years ago. She sought this woman out at the last minute to try and screw Romney. It won’t work. People hate Allred and know her motives. She’s scum, pure scum.
And so are so the Obamoids - what on earth does Romney have to do with it?
They’re desperate and desperate people do stupid things. This is not at all like the Bush DUI scandal in 2000 that nearly cost him the election.

Listen, this guy, probably a huge narcissist, likely left her a complete mess after he was done gettign his narcissistic supply and moved on to his next victim. You can tell by his total lack of empathy or relationship with his own flesh and blood son.
God hates divorce and this ignorant “get over it, move on with your life” doesn’t show any intelligence when her marriage, the place where she and her children were supposed to be loved unconditionally turned out to be a house of horrors.

Obama must really be steamed after that last debate because Romney’s part in the Stegman divorce info has been hashed and rehashed time and again on the internet. All this info seems pretty lame to me given it was and continued to be an extremely bitter divorce. Lots of “he said” and “she said.” I hope this isn’t going to be a sleazy attempt to put some kind of face on the alleged “War on Women.” Then again, it is the Obama campaign and Gloria Allred.
The former Mrs. Stemberg “who claims no health insurance due to what she claims are extensive medical conditions” lives in a $5,600 per month abode and had a generous (by my poor standards) settlement.
Romney testified at the time and rumor has it that he told the court that Stemberg’s Staples stock was over-valued in the court records. This was sometime in 1988. Of course in the Spring of 1989, the stock went public and Mrs. Stemberg had sold off half of her stock before then.
I don’t know when Romney was working with Wall Street to take the stock public, but, the Dems may be trying to say that Romney devalued what was the couple’s primary asset in a state that is 50/50 in divorce cases. In my opinion, Romney’s involvement in Staples was due to Stegman’s excellent sales skills and not any earth shattering financial data at the time.
But then, that’s what I want in a President is someone who can look at economical possibilities and see the possibilities.
There was also some story out there at one time that the Stegman son had approached Romney to help his mother. Stegman and his son were not on excellent terms after the divorce. I don’t see how that involves Romney.
I didn’t quote any links to this info because it has been all over the internet for a long time. You can find it easily on the internet. If this is it, what a desperation shot it is and the Rats must really be shaking in their shoes a couple of weeks prior to the election.
