Ann Coulter set Twitter on fire tonight with her remarks in the analysis period following the last presidential debate. @AnnCoulter posted:
"I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard."
Coulter, a Conservative writer often featured as a political pundit on news programs, is known for her abrasive personality and ability to promote her ideals despite extreme opposition. She was once attacked during a speech at a college with a violent hit in the face with a pie. Tonight, her poor choice of a word may cost her some valuable alliances.
While her use of the "r" word, as people politely refer to the term in modern society, probably reflects the way the term was used in everyday society in her formative years; it was commonly used in school and everywhere else in a teasing sort of way until 10 or 15 years ago.

Probably, but she won't. I don't think she has ever apologized for anything she's said, she'll just go on the attack and bring up a time someone on the other side said something similar which, I guess in her mind at least, gives her free rein to use the same language.
I know many, even on here, like Coulter. But I really think she is our side's version of a Bill Maher. That is to say a indiscriminate bomb thrower who ends up doing as much damage to their own side as the other.

She really shouldn’t have said it, and I imagine we will hear from Palin about this.
