In Texas if you feel yourself or your property is in danger you can use deadly force. I’m not sure I’d take a life over a Romney sign. But I would if I was gettin’ the crap beaten out of me.

I have a feeling that simply walking out into your yard with a .12-ga pump shotgun would end the incident right there.
You wouldn’t even need to rack it.
And NO ONE would have gone to the hospital, let alone the morgue.
There *might* be a lesson there for “perp-friendly” states like Wisconsin.
