Sen. Al Franken tells Elizabeth Warren supporters 'this is about turnout'

Minnesota Democratic Sen. Al Franken reminded a crowd of unionized health care workers here Saturday about the importance of their get-out-the-vote effort in the city and elsewhere for fellow Democrat Elizabeth Warren, who's running a close race against incumbent Massachusetts GOP Sen. Scott Brown.

Franken -- elected to the Senate by a razor-thin 312 votes four years ago -- told members of SEIU Local 1199 that it's "absolutely critical" to knock on every door and make every phone call.

"This is about turnout," he said.

"No stones unturned," shouted a man in the crowd.

Tim Foley, the union's political director, said they have been canvassing every Saturday since Labor Day and registered close to 3,000 people to vote in Springfield.

"It's been really positive," he said of residents' responses.

Foley said they will continue to hit the streets every Saturday until the election.

Franken spoke highly of Warren -- a Harvard law professor and consumer advocate -- saying she will be a great colleague in the Senate and work hard for everyone in Massachusetts.

He added he hopes she can join him on the Senate Judiciary Committee, an important body responsible for vetting candidates for the U.S. Supreme Court.

We are working hard here on get out the vote...we had a great turnout for the primaries. I am a bit anxious about Monday. We are trying to provide transportation for anyone who needs it but still answering so many calls asking questions one would think people would know by now. We are really encouraging early voting. Our forms are so long we are uneasy about people having to wait so long once election day gets here. Hope they vote all screens and dont get discouraged.
