Why Benghazi Matters

It has taken more than four weeks, but the facts of the assault on the American consulate in Benghazi are slowly emerging.

It is now known that on the evening of September 11, 2012, Ambassador Christopher Stevens conducted a scheduled meeting with a Turkish diplomat. At approximately 8:30 PM, the ambassador saw his visitor out the gate. There were no protesters in front of the consulate then, nor did any of the survivors of the attack report the presence of demonstrators prior to the initial assault. Videotapes recovered from the compound show, at least partially, what happened.

At 9:40 PM, rocket propelled grenades and automatic weapons tore into the front of the compound. Inside the consulate, American security personnel immediately contacted the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, as well as the State Department Crisis Desk in Washington, informing both locations that they were under attack. Per standing orders, Ambassador Stevens and diplomat Sean Smith were placed in a safe room in the ambassador’s residence. Within minutes, an outbuilding housing a Libyan security force was on fire, and the militiamen assigned to protect the compound had melted away into the night.

Incoming RPG and machine gun fire became so heavy that the security officers were forced to retreat and barricade themselves into a command center adjacent to the Ambassador’s residence. Now holed up in separate buildings, the Americans were surrounded. The situation would rapidly go from bad to worse.

Here's another thing that should matter to the Obama Administration in particular..

If there is an organization that can get the absolute truth (birthplace, personal records, skeletons and all) about anyone it is the intelligence community. So Barry, Hillary!, et al. had better stop and use what remains of those pot-addled brains of theirs. Maybe the MSM won't publish it but the alternate media will.

Chuck was never a "SEAL Team Six commander," that I know of. He was a junior officer at ST-6 for a while, but never a commander, either in the C.O. or the naval rank meaning of the word, as far as I know. (I served with Chuck at UDT-21 and ST-4 in the early 1980s.)

That's Chuck standing up on the 35' Seafox in the top left photo. I took that picture when MARG 2-83 relieved MARG 1-83 in March of 1983 in Beirut. He was the asst. platoon leader of the oncoming SEAL Platoon, probably a LTJG if memory serves.

All of the pictures I could now find on Google images show Chuck to be old, fat and gray. He was a tall, handsome, happy-go-lucky red-headed stud when I knew him. I'm sure I have some good paper photos of him "back in the day" in boxes in my garage, but none that are scanned.

Anyway, Chuck was a great guy and a real live-wire when I knew him in the early 80s. He drew cartoons, and made up team songs. In fact, he drew the current ST-4 logo. (UDT-21 became ST-4 in 1983.) My platoon was the last to ever deploy from UDT-21, and became the first-ever deployed platoon from ST-4 while we were in Beirut.

He even drew the shark teeth on his Seafox. A very creative and happy guy. I lost track of him years ago, but he's had some severe health challenges, and his "SEAL Target Geronimo" book was widely panned as being at least partly BS, but I haven't read it.

Here is the ST-4 logo, drawn by Chuck. It shows a seal pointing a ka-bar knife at Central America, the ST-4 AO. The motto is "Mal Ad Osteo," after the song that was popular then, "Bad to the bone."

PS: The total of 21 stars on the ST-4 logo are to memorialize UDT-21, one of the original WW2-era UDTs, one of the few in continuous commission from WW2 until it became ST-4 in 1983 (while my platoon was in Beirut.)

Where were the former SEALs when they died? Were the other two security force personnel killed American or Libyan? Why did the attackers set fire to the building? Maybe they were just pyromaniacs, but were they burning documents? Why diesel? Why two men spreading diesel? What was the goal of this attack? Did they just want to scuffle with Americans? Were they trying to kill the Ambassador to get a lot of attention? Were they trying to stop an investigation? Lots of questions and a lot of what I’ve read about this doesn’t pass the common sense test.

Thus, it is time to deliberately vote out the Obama Administration, and their fellow Senators and Representatives running for office this November.
