In 1962, then President of Cuba, Fidel Castro recruited two former Nazi SS soldiers to help train his military at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, according to declassified documents released by Germany's secret intelligence agency, the BND (Bundesnachrichtendienst).

Castro invited four SS officers to Havana, where he offered them quadruple the average salary a German made at that time in exchange for their expertise. Two of the four accepted his offer, the documents, dated October 26, 1962, reveal.

The men served in Adolf Hitler's Waffen-SS, a force separate from the army and known as the armed wing of the Nazi party.

Castro's interest in Nazi military officials wasn't just limited to SS members, however, he was also trying to hire German paratroopers and technicians.

A number of nations used German vets to train their militaries after WW2, and not all for political reasons.

Heil myself! I'm sure the SS felt right at home with all the interminable speeches given by murderous megalomaniac Fidel......... That reminds me, I wonder if our megalomaniac is going to have the `flop-sweats' tonight anticipating another thumping from Mitt tomorrow.

The old East German communist government was full of ex-Nazis, including at least three in the Cabinet. One, Ernest Grossmann, was a high-ranking SS officer and Deputy Commandant of Sachsenhausen concentration/work camp.

The organization “International Association of Free Jurists” published two versions (one in English, the other in German) about “Ex-Nazis in the East German (Pankow) Government”, complete with photos, Nazi Party Cards, and key biographical information about them.

The Soviets had an American Communist supporter (and probable covert member) named Charles D. Allen, working for them to “expose” ex-Nazis in the West German government, while covering up Nazis in several Communist Block nations including Czechoslovakia and E. German.

Allen was hired by, either NBC or more likely, ABC, as their expert on Nazi war criminals, and he was used to attack other legitimate “Nazi-Hunters” from the Klarsfelds to Simon Weisenthal (who helped me in my writing/research).

We exposed Allen for who he actually was, in the Jewish Week newspaper in DC about 1983, and that helped to end his KGB-directed role as “Nazi-Hunter” discrediter as well as disinformation/propagandist for covering up the Soviet’s extensive recruitment of ex-Nazis, esp. SS and Gestapo, for their security and foreign ops services.

I write this just to provide a “back-story” about what happened to ex-Nazis after the war. A lot of them went to South America where Juan Peron of Argentina welcomed them. Others showed up in Brazil and Chile. (Remember, there were extensive German nationals in lots of Latin America, also including Guatemala. The most important/worst ones, German operatives during WW2, were rounded up and deported to the US, and put into detention camps for the duration of the war in the most underreported operation in the Western Hemisphere).

MSNBC did a “hit” job on this “detention” program several decades ago, so don’t ever rely on it as being an accurate expose’. It stank and I dealt with their local VP’s in an attempt to correct the worst parts of it. Of course, nothing happened and the lies were allowed to exist unchallenged.

Just for some background information on my sources, etc. my friends included Stefan Korbonski, the leader of the Free Polish Army; survivors from Auschwitz (one of whom was almost chosen for medical experiments by Dr. Mengele - she lost her sister and mothers there); a friend from Austria who was beaten by Himmler’s men in Vienna (his sister was executed by the Germans in Yugoslavia when they seized a boat full of Jewish refugees and killed them all); and a friend who dealth directly with Eichmann in an effort to save Jewish children from extermination (Dr. William Perl, saved up to 40,000 childen/youth by smuggling them out of Europe to Palestine, Latin America, etc; later an investigator of the Malmedy Massacre).

I also count among my acquaintances the late Peter Malkin, the Israeli Mossad agent who physically captured Eichmann in Argentina, as well as one of his Assistant Prosecutors in Israel. Another late friend, Morris Amchan, was a Nuremberg prosecutor of I.G. Farben, et. al. Three of my Hebrew school teachers were survivors of Auschwitz, as well as other friends who were Holocaust survivors from all over Europe. I even did a small book for my synagogue about some of these people and our best friend spend the war in Poland posing as a Catholic in order to avoid being killed (there were many good Polish Catholics who protected their Jewish friends at the risk of death to themselves and their families).

The secrets of WW2 are still being revealed and provide us with an incredible view of the horrors and realities of the Nazi madmen and the Japanese imperialists (whose atrocities rivaled those of the Nazis).

Yes, as a matter of fact, when France purged the SS from the Foreign Legion, they stopped gaining on the VC. I have no admiration whatsoever for them but you have to admit that nobody could kill like the SS.

"The ex- Resistance guys must have thrown some elaborate blanket parties for them;)"

I seriously doubt a Frenchman could throw a blanket party for a member of the Waffen-SS.
