A lot of slimy ex-cons in the debt collection business. Also in roofing.
Don’t make me get in my car and drive up there. I’m 6 feet tall and 300 lbs. Let’s see some pencil-necked bill collector get in my face. This makes me sick. Why isn’t the veteran receiving VA disability, I wonder? Or maybe he is and the reporter is confused.

I’m not a veteran, but that bill collector is lucky I wasn’t standing there. He might be three feet taller than me, and outweigh me by 200 pounds, but believe you me, he would have remembered it.
“Kinda Rough!” Especially as the guy was really hurt due to real combat related injuries.
I'm a debt collector, and I don't receive even half of that. Although I make a living, I guess I have worked for the wrong agency all these years.
If the harassment victim has this on tape, he won't need to worry about paying this bill. His attorney should be able to have the collection company pay it for him.
My company takes violations of the FDCPA seriously. 100% of my conversations are taped. If anyone complains about anything I do, my supervisor must first listen to the call in question.
If a complaint leads to a discovery of a violation of the FDCPA, A) My company will pay debts and fines and lawyers fees, and B) I will be fired.
No licensed debt collector I know would do what was described here. This isn't to say it didn't happen. The thing of it is, is most debt collectors I know behave professionally and take the job seriously.
There isn't a reason to treat people this way because we have tools available to help those that are caught between a rock and a hard place yet want to try to salvage the situation.
Don’t worry. In a few more years, under obamacare, future vets like this one will be declared too damaged to keep alive.
My son who does not live with me owed on student loans.... I was being harassed by a debt collector for weeks....
I finally solved the problem....
1. Before you talk to them ask for a name and call back number in case you get disconnected...
2. Explain you do not owe the debt and I need to be taken off your call list
3. If they can’t or won’t ask to speak to a supervisor...
4. Keep going up the ladder until you get the person with the authority to remove your name from their call list... Remember at every level get a name and all back number with extension
5. When you finally get the manager with the ability to remove your name and won’t simply explain that for every time I get a call I will personally call your extension and harass you every hour on the hour...until you do...
Never failed to work... I promise them they will rue the day they don’t take me off the call list....
Sounds like the debt collector graduated from the ‘Biden School of Jerkdom’...
